View Full Version : Blowing my own trumpet

Now I'm not one to 'blow my own trumpet', so to speak, *cough*, ok, at least not on this forum, but I think I did something worthy of at least a little recognition not a few moments ago...
I passed a poor chap on a Bandit 600 rolling his ride down the breakdown lane just before the Ellerslie-Panmure offramp. Now I, as well as most of the traffic, was travelling quickly enough that I didn't see him until it was too late to pull over. As I exited the motorway, I remembered how freakin' annoying it is to breakdown on the motorway on a bike and get no assitance, especially in such lovely weather like today. So I go back through the shops (past a Bruce-less Hell) and hopped back on at Tacoma St.
Sure enough, he'd dismounted his ride and was walking back up the side of the motorway, so I pulled over and asked if he needed a hand. It appeared to simply be a problem with the fuel not feeding the motor when there is none left to feed! So I picked him up, popped in the flat to get my RaceFuel(tm) container, topped it up, brought him back and got him going again.
Result - One very grateful tourist , and me with a story to assist a shameless attempt at harvesting some more positive rep points (hint, hint)
Actually, it was probably nothing a lot of you good buggers wouldn't have done in the same shoes.

I actually never know if I should stop or not - I know nothing about the mechancis of a bike and therefore couldn't really offer a lot of assistance.

Well done that man.
I helped out a biker with a flat front tyre a few months ago. I rode to the local auto parts store, bought a can of tyre panda and then took it back to the guy. It got him to the servo where he got some money out for me, added a bit more air to his tyre and was on his way.
While everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon, feel free to give me some good rep points.

lmao, that's ME in that pic!!
Good on ya DM..
I always make an effort to stop for fellow bikers, in the hope that should I ever need assistance, it'd come my way (all the karma crap I guess). Plus I know what it's like to be stuck in the crap and you could do without that stuff..

Last time I helped someone with their bike, I crashed mine the next day.
I think someone was pulling my leg about this whole Karma thing

Good on you :2thumbsup
People have helped me out when I've been stuck (including one bloke who towed my bike with his using my PVC raincoat as a tow rope) so I always stop for a biker in trouble. (admittedly most of the time there's not a lot I can do - they've usually already called their mates and are just waiting for them to arrive with a full jerry-can.)

You never know of what assistance you can be until you gift at least the time to stop and ask.

Well thankyou all for the kind words. I hope it inspires more to take a bit of time out of their day to help a fellow 2 wheeler...

it's always a pain in the bum to stop and try to help anyone broken down on the roadside, cos I am nearly always in a hurry, but I do stop, because I know what it's like to be in that situation. I think the most notable one was stopping for a guy with a flattie outside whakatane then bumping into him again 2 years later in wellington, he was dying of leukemia, and died just a few months later, in fact life is so short we should try to brighten at least one person's life up per day. Sorry for being slushy and sentimental but we've had 3 people who were either friends or involved with our family die in the past 2 weeks and I'm feeling very much inclined to believe life is short at the moment.
