Hi guys, I'm new here and I'm pretty impressed with the amount of activity that goes on here - very active forums with a lot of experienced people!

I'll start with a sad, unrelated story - my black matte HJC CL-14 bike helmet got cut off my scooter a couple of thursdays ago (sept 25), somewhere between 5pm and 10pm outside Engineering school at Auckland Uni - If you were there and saw anything, I'd like to know :(

Well onto my scooter - I've had it for almost 2 years now, it's served me really really well, but it has this one issue which ticks me off, but I've been incredibly slack in getting it looked at.
I scoot to uni and back home each day, which is about 4kms each way and takes about 10 mins. My Honda Lead usually goes really well till the last couple of hundred metres, when it seems to conk out to some degree, and cuts the revs to half, and putts the rest of the way, sometimes cutting back in to where I'm holding the throttle, and sometimes just continuing to putt :/
Sometimes, like today, I got to uni and back with no problems. It can happen on the flat, or on a hill, anywhere really, but it seems to do it after the engines had 8ish minutes of use, and has heated up to some degree...
It's done ~7000 kms and hasn't been in any major accidents (I clipped the metal bumper on a Hilux, which broke my indicator, and actually managed to take some dust off the hilux). It has had one service at 5000kms, and that's the only oil change it's ever had (I'm going to have people screaming at me about this I think)

Please ask questions, I'm happy to clarify the problem :)

Sell it, buy motorbike

SORTED.

Scooters often suffer from a very big problem that is impossible to fix. No amount of time, love or money will stop them from being so incredibly GAY.

RM, it's a Honda, it's already incredibly GAY. Even my RS and your RR have that problem, despite being motorcycles.

Could it be fuel starvation? E.g. vapour lock or something -- blocked tank filler cap or similar.

Or perhaps when the engine is getting nice and toasty-hot, a leak develops in the intake manifold.

Those scooter engines are air-cooled and have a fan, right? Fan still spinning around?

And you know all about that.

If you have nothing constuctive to say don't say anything.

Has your scoot always had this prob or developed after the servicing.I'll presume its only just started to happen and can only advise doing some basic checks.Pull out the spark plug and give it a clean and do the same with the air filter.Take it for a ride and see if its an improvement. No?try also checking the fuel line/filter and fuel on/off lever for blockage as my old rm developed a similar prob to your scoot which eventually was traced back to this.If no luck with these checks have a go over the wiring connectors, one may be loose.
Good luck with these and let us know how you get on-I'm also presuming that you hav'nt tried this stuff yet.

While all very good suggestions, I don't think they will mean too much to him as he has never actually changed the oil himself I will assume that he doesn't know what to look for.

Sometimes a fuel line can be too close to an intense heat source. Enough to melt the line, but the fuel passing through stops that (it absorbs the heat and 'boils'...sending fumes to the carb bowl)
