View Full Version : Leathers for the, eh, huskier gentleman? (Thanks Simpsons!)

I tried searching but didn't find anything (probably mis-using the search engine).

I'm 175cm tall, and weigh about 90kgs. I used to play prop/2nd row in under-85kg rugby league, so you can imagine my build...stocky/solid. Problem is, from my point of view, that most leathers seem to be made for anorexic beanpoles. I could stand to lose a bit of weight, but it still doesn't change the fact that my ribcage is nearly 100cm! Is a custom suit my only option? Or should I forgot one-piece suits and just try to mix-and-match two piece gear?

I been riding in a Made-to-Ride leather jacket and Draggin jeans, but I want something with a bit more protection when I move from my TZR250 up to my ZXR750.

Seen Quasi's gear, I like the look of the one (race) piece suits (bright colours!, and available in green!), but the two piece seems a bit bland. Are the race suits okay for Saturdays and Sundays, or strictly suitable for racing only?

Cheers.

I'm 177cms and 95 kgs, just a touch bigger than you. I'd unreservedly recommend my Quasimoto leathers.

Ive found the 2nd hand leathers market primo. Leathers stretch heaps after a while and when i try them on they are all waaaayyy to tight. but 2nd hand stuff is all pre worked so its all good. so long as you can stand dressing in another mans clothes.

1 piece suits are fine for the road, but if you have to stop and walk around you might feel like a bit of a wally as you cant lose the top half! If you buy a new suit its best if its a bit tight anyway as it will stretch to suit your specific shape, might just have to wear it around the house for a bit first if its not comfortable on the bike right away. You can aid the stretching process if you're clever by putting a tyre inner tube inside it and expanding it, do this with care though, as once the suits stretched it aint going back!
