Scramble bars?

I was wondering about putting scramble bars on my CG, this older dude at work said back in the day he had a BSA 250, and he put some scramble bars on it, and he could throw it into the corners somthing chronic!

I was going around a few shops today, and I saw that you can get them cheap as chips, like $30...

Is this a good idea to bung em on, or am I wasting my time?

30 bucks seems too cheap, and they're likely to bend in a fall cause they will be made from cheap metal.

You could buy these cheaps ones to find out if it's worth it or not, then buy some nicer ones if you can

Nah they were around the 30-40 at a couple of bike shops...

You can get flasher ones for about $80, but if you crash lots of stuff would be bent anyway I reckon...

Keep in mind the cables as they may not be long enuff if you got to significantly higher bars. Last thing you want is the throttle coming on every time you turn sharp left.

They are good but they will amplifiy any handling issues with your bike.
If you have a slight wobble or weave in fast corners it will be a lot worse with wider bars.
The price you mention is about right,I have a set of Ventura flat track bars that cost $40.00.
Some people just don't feel happy until they've been ripped off,it's called advertising/marketing. :shutup:

Back before the CG was built a lot of the bikes of the day had scrambler type bars with a cross brace tube e.g. Suzuki Stingers, Hustlers and Rebels (that's 125, 250 and 350 to those that don't remember) and they were no problem and we thought they looked cool then. If that's what gets your adrenalin pumping just do it. If they are a higher reach just watch your cables aren't too tight - don't want any jammed throttles eh!!

Not quite as high. On the subject of handle bars, anyone remember "ace" bars? Or "semi-westerns"? I put some of those on my push bike, riding to college I thought I was sooo cool!

To bring something else up that i thought was wierd....whats with the custimized push bikes?
I mean all the extra wieght and stuff. (what is the purpose of exhaust pipes on a push bike?) Even saw one guy towing a book box setup thingy the other day. Upset him real bad when he couldnt hear his music over my pipes :2thumbsup

I often fit dirt bike bars to my street bikes,they are comfortable to me and give good leverage - but on a small bike it could be too much...you toss the bike into the corner and the tyres almost lift off,it's very easy to over correct....but take your time and you'll get used to them.As Jack said,they will highlight any handling problems with your bike...also with your riding style.Bars will only bend if you fall off - I've had bars on some of my bikes for years,and I only buy cheap shit everything.

Fairly common mod in Britain,early Streetfighters started it and plenty of others followed.Renthals M/X bars are the most popular,think they need drilling for switches e.t.c. though.Plenty of Bandits and Hornets with them fitted,either colour-coded to the bike or in gold as a rule.

Bugger,degades ahead of trends again - I've still got a set of gold Renthal speedway bars that I used to have on several street bikes...wide and low with to me a good bend...um,an asemetrical bend too,but I'm a little twisted so they suit me fine.Had them on my TM400 dirt tracker too,after having them for 10 yrs they get used for the purpose they were sort of made for.
