Boob likes straights though.
Then he will really like it on 2 just past the turn off to 50 then!
That is one boring piece of road from Takapau to Waipukarau.
Whats wrong Boob? The RF liked going around corners & TLs do!

Now whatever else you do, you HAVE to go SH50. That is one beautiful piece of road ... just beautiful. It's got some straights on it too. The tikotiko one is a boomer Boob.

Enjoy whichever you choose,Takapau straights are good but need radar on,worth a stop at Norsewood at the pub, great food and the Norsewear shop open?for warm clothes.Flick a text when near Palmy can grab a brew with ya,if not working, finish 2.30 Sat pm,sounds like you will be through Palmy though.

Ignore Katman, I love the twisties always have, Taranaki is full of windy back roads :2thumbsup

Interesting.
The most "attention getting" ride that I ever had was through that way and I was on an RF 900 too. The cross wind was unreal. Across the Takapau plains I was down to second gear, almost getting a knee down in the gusts and still getting blown across the centreline.
Boob, You convey the impression that you are a bit pressed for time on this trip, but if not, then from Waipawa north, there are at least 3 alternatives (apart from 2 and 50) that will more than satisfy any taste for corners.

Can be well 'watched' though, from Tikokino south to Takapau turnoff.

Many more than that...but local knowledge to find them is a must.

We must get together over a map and a beer next time I am visiting the in-laws in Waipawa.

And plenty of dead straight ones. :P
By my aunty's farm in karponga the roads are damn straight as they crisscross farmland.
Plenty of ups and downs though. :)

The main problem with SH50 is that it's too short.

No stock today but we came across 8 Turkeys on some back road at one point lol. I did nearly run a rabbit over if that counts as stock?
