Open face helmet...fingerless gloves!?!? :shit:

I have to agree, I can't help but cringe when I see someone in an open faced helmet and gloves that don't protect their hands adequately. But it is his risk and it's not like I haven't done stupid & dangerous shit myself, so I'll just cringe and not throw stones. My advice to any motorcyclist would be to wear a full faced helmet and decent gloves, but you are all entitle to ignore that advice at your own peril - I wont be yelling at you from the roadside if you ride past without the good gear on.

If the regulations changed banning open faced helmets I would be fine with that, I never wear anything other than full faced anyway and I can flip up mine when stopped. But it isn't my head at risk when someone else wears an open faced helmet so, like, whatever dudes & dudettes.

J2 I presume that was you I waved at on the hill yesterday heading back when I was heading out on the DR650 on this ride http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=83780 with the boys. It was such a nice day I just wore my black jeans, couldn't be bothered putting my usual leather trou on, but then I started riding before full face helmets, cordura, kevlar, knee sliders and all that stuff was even on the market.

You're right about the whinging, and it makes me laugh every time I see a thread when one rider tries to tell another rider what they should be doing when a lot start out riding bikes to be different than driving the car for a different bit of enjoyment so they don't need being told what to do.

There are too many places to be ridden before we need to degenerate to whinging because we have nothing else to do.

I guess you figure I'm not insistent on ATGATT I'm more of a WWYFL kind of guy.

This is true. However, in keeping with my general philosophy of "Do no harm", I have a gold mirrored visor and a full face helmet to protect those who may accidentally glance upon my visage, and to make sure that livestock do not stampede when I perchance to visit the wilderness.

Bet he's got a nice trailer.

Nah mate he rode the old thing around to my place and then he was on his way to Upper Hutt to drop off an old pommy bike oil line for another mate. You can see one end of the oil line sticking up in the top of the photo and his non-period piece helmet sitting on the lawn.

You can see he had just stopped because I raced out with the camera and caught it before the oil dripped on the ground.

What about a whinge about not riding - is that allowed?

Didn't get to ride in the weekend again (GAaaaah!!) but was all set to ride this morning, till once again #2Son ambushed me again. Not only that, but he made me late for work ("Where's my pants? Dunno if I'll have breakfast or not... My car's not registered and I've got no money till Wednesday... I need to take a dump before I go...")

Pharking yooof... They blardy stay up all night and want to sleep all day...

Oh well, at least it's a sunny day, so I can enjoy the weather while I walk across to the Postal Orofice to pay his car licencing fee...

Oh yeah - nice photos, RidingAroundPeoples. :niceone:

I did a bit over 200k in the weekend - mostly around the central Waikato. Even wore my gimp suit! Heaps of bikes out - saw a couple parked having a smoke in the Walton Valley - managed to wave as I blasted past knee-down at 100km/h :) I even waved to the guy/girl on the GN250.......

Yeah, nuff bitching ffs.

Open face helmets ? I collected a stone on my cage windscreen from a truck tyre on saturday. The damn thing hit us like a really loud rifle shot. What a fright! and quite sobering thinking about being hit like that while on a bike. I'm all for wearing what we choose, but fuck knows how I would have defended against that little rock - plastic visor? Cordura jacket? I think not.

I got nicked at the bottom of the Rimutakas on Saturday night. First one for a very long time and probably well overdue.

Very pleasant gentleman, obviously knew where I was headed and didn't want to hold me up any longer than necessary. Said he'd post the bill out to me.

Even that wasn't enough to ruin a brilliant evening.

Nah, I think its about going anywhere on your bike, enjoy the ride, and stop whinging at others trying to tell them what to do and what not to do and what to wear etc for chrissake because there is too much fun to be had before we've even run out of places to go :scooter:
