Hi there, I've just joined KB recently and I've learnt heaps from just reading the previous threads! You guys are great!

I've just purchased a 1993 Kawasaki ZXR250 from TradeMe. It's done around 23,000kms, but the previous owner has kept it in storage for the past half year or so without riding it, he reckons he serviced it just before he put it into service, the thing is that I rode it from Howick to St Heliers, stopped at the lights, the bike stalled by itself, so I pushed it onto the footpath and tried starting it again, but it wouldn't start :shit:

I called the previous owner and he came straight away, after about 30 minutes of waiting, it started, then the owner had a look at it, and the problem hasn't happened! Would any of you guys know why it'll stalled like that and not happen straight away again? (hopefully not again!)

Then I got home, look at it closer and notice there are some green liquid leaking from around the rear brake fluid reservoir, I'm guessing it'll be coolant? See the attached photos. Any idea?

Final question I'll probably be taking it to Spectrum in Takapuna, Auckland for a full service and tune-up this week, what sort of things will they do? How much should I be expecting to pay? I heard they're really good.

Any thoughts/comments will be greatly appreciated!!! :Punk:

nice bike mate. man thay can move for a 250. yes that looks like coolant. and it depends what u mean by tuneup. things like carb balancing cost heeps if it takes a long time to do but can be worth it if its running like shit.

blue_eyed_savage: Yeah I know, I've only been on the motorway at normal 100k/hr today. Will be keen for a track day once I'm used to the bike and all serviced.

To be honest, I know nothing about bikes as I've only just started couple months ago, I wonder where you put in the coolant? I thought to find coolant near the rear brake reservoir is quite strange

BTW your CBR is awesome!!! :2thumbsup

Skid: Thanks heaps for the offer Skid! KB won't allow me to use the PM system as my post count isn't high enough at the moment  plus I work in Albany and live in St Johns on weekdays :stupid: when are you free?

BTW your bike is also really cool... aw man I'm drooling over pretty much every single bike I see! :doctor:

Cheers Mark, quick update. Today after work I went home and switched the fuel tap to PRI and waited a bit, it started! Had a quick squirt to Newmarket and back to clear out the carb, I guess it was flooded.

Would any of you know what to switch the fuel tap to when I park it for a day or so? Do I put it on Res to stop the carb from sucking the fuel?

Great purchase man, you won't be disapointed with it. They are pretty nippy little bikes and you can rev the balls off em:)
