Deano
15th October 2008, 11:11
Cliff Hanger Promotions are holding several NZ National Speed Record attempts in Featherston on 9 November 2008.

Several riders will be attempting to break various national speed records.

Malcolm Breadmore has already achieved 199mph at the last sprint meeting, so is in hot contention for the NZ Open Category record.

Ivan Juggins, Johnny Burkhart and Steve Bron will be there, as will Paul Heard on his desmosedici (road registered 990cc MotoGP bike)

More information is available on the attached flier, including organiser contact details.

25 MARSHALS ARE REQUIRED FOR THIS EVENT - IF YOU CAN HELP OUT ON THE DAY, PLEASE LET ME KNOW OR E-MAIL galbrett@xtra.co.nz

Yeah I have seen the photo !

The only reason she isn't mentioned in the flier is that 'her' category has not yet been confirmed by MNZ.

Bron better get Denny to lay off the pies

Steve said he will be using a counter weight......at the minimum 60kg limit....rather than the 80 odd kg of his swinger. Can you feel the love ? haha

Well is anyone going to actually tell us the records that were achieved???

well here is my times

Standing quarter mile

12.791 seconds

Flying Qurter

199.33 KPH averaged speed speed is taken from 2 runs and then averaged out over the 2.

If you look at that video and listen carefully you can hear the bikes mainly Malcolms getting airbourne that way going down is the slowest as that section is really really bumpy and your right out of the seat it was a very very scary ride along there especially my record run with the bike getting a massive headshake over the bumps

Did anyone get any vids or pics of my 125 wheelies or burnouts??

AllanB
9th November 2008, 20:56
I saw them on TV news tonight.

Apparently according to the reporter I can buy a MV like that for $11,000 - just let me know which dock I need to be standing on a midnight. :2thumbsup

Well done - the road appeared far from smooth!

I suggested trying next time in Invercargill - Mayor Tim will probably happily close a State Highway to get you there!

I've got no idea what records were set but huge, I mean HUGE respect to all who gave it a crack on that mongrel bit of road. I saw Malcom come across the main highway on his way South for a run and he was off the seat with both wheels off the ground at what would have been over 200km/h......and things only got hairier from there.

Hey man thanks alot aye.

It was sounding crisp as on that record run aye it was so lean we were rworried we were going to melt a piston,

If you were in the pits 5 minutes before you would have seen the mad dash to get the bike back out after a bolt snapped in the primary drive and we had to remove it luckily my mate Daniel just kept on at it and eventually got it out.

Thanks alot for turning up everyone you guys did awsome and Choppa the Desmo did not break the record he was wanting to achieve dont think he even got the 200mph mark I wont confirm this as I dont know but he was close but just not close enough full respect to Paul riding it tho he was honestly flat out at 280ish and had the front lifting and rear spinning and also went in the gravel one run!!!

And man Them sidecar nutters constant sideways haha

yeah that bit was in front of our marshall post. At one point the Busa looked like it was going into a bit of a tank slapper (at 250+ kph!!!)
The bumps seemed to cause a bit of drift when the wind got up too.
The highlight of the day for me would be the Busa. shit he was fast. Did something happen to the bike on his last run? sounded like a dropped valve from where we were.

I give it to Paul,
People can say how much f waste it was but he was there doing the buisness ask any of the riders and they will say it was a very very bumpy track i mean 280+ and he was getting wheelstand and wheelspin.

I wish him well over seas and hope he smashes the record in Auckland to.

Absolutely, that road was quite vicious! 284(real) and the MV was airborne....I managed to keep her just straight enough to stay on such a narrow road. I doubt many set ups would cope as well as the MV could. The damper was sure working hard out there, head shakes at that speed are some scary shite. Big ups to Paul for getting a quicker speed. Traction was a HUGE issue, wheel spin meant the rev limiter was kicking in for me in top cog. Gearing changes were not possible for me as the sprockets didn't arrive in time, but in a way.....I don't think I would have wanted to ride them bumps any faster.

A smooth road next time and 300plus all the way:niceone:

Well done to everyone that had a go. It certainly wouldn't be easy on a road like that. Maybe if MCNZ ever make the open class open, rather than 1300cc, I will be able to have a go. Was Paul Heard going to try in Auckland? If so where?

Congrats to all who road that goat track, I think they only realised the night before when Ivan and his dad were sweeping the road how bumpy it was. Special thanks to Flame for riding the Tambo, you got some big cajones hiding somewhere !! Braver than me, that's for sure. And guess what, the parcel arrived this morning from our German Superbike boys so with a bit more traction we'll get you some bigger numbers next time. I hope you had a few bourbons last night, sorry we had to rush off but ferries wait for no-one.

They were fantastic - all over the fecking strip of 'shoelace' that we euphemistically called the road.

Unoffically - not sure if it has been confirmed as yet?? but Steve (and Dennis) have set the standing record for a open class sidechair up to 1350cc. They had beaten it on run one, and and on the return run they were about half a second faster again.

Be interesting to shoot down the beach and measure it ! What is the minimum length required ?

Sims rd is a quiet lil dead end with prolly half a doz driveways last time i was down there (should've looked first i guess since its been a few months), so real easy to marshall and dead flat ! Used to drag the V8s down there in the bad ol days
