Ouch, I got done for 66 over the limit not long ago. Got $500 fine but nothing else (no points and no lose of license apart from the instant 28 days on the scene). Did you go to court over it ??

onearmedbandit
31st January 2005, 21:56
Yeah, instant 28 day suspension issued on the spot (in the middle of effing nowhere), further disq received via mail ordering me off the road until my court date. Due to previous history (over 5yrs earlier but similar offence) there was the chance of confiscation. However, the judge was very fair on me, handing me the minimum fine, ensured that I returned to 0 demerit points when I got my licence back, and minimum disq period, much to the frustration of the prosecuting officer. To sum up, the judge told me 'to take a more serious view of NZ's road laws' and sent me on my way. Phew!

I made it in the local paper too!! (The court case was in Rangiora, just outside of Chch)

(BTW, not proud of that last fact, or any of it, before anyone passes comment)

Hmm no fines last year that I recall...

Due to previous history (over 5yrs earlier but similar offence) there was the chance of confiscation.

I got caught in the middle on nowhere as well. Lucky for me the cops were a top bunch of blokes (no really they were). Another patrol car came out and with my permission they rode my cbr900 back to the Masterton police station where I could pick up it at any time (provided of course I didn't ride it away). The guy that busted me then dropped me off at the train station. The following weekend I got the train out to Masterton with a mate and we got the bike from the station, he rode it home and I took the train back.

After the 28 days I got my license back, wrote into the court rather than go in and got off lightly ($425 fine not $500 as I thought).

Bugger, 2 months later got snapped for 125 in a 70 (cbr900 again!). So another 28 days. Wrote in again and got a $530 fine, no points and no further lose of license. Maybe I got off lightly because the letters went to two different district courts (Masterton/Wellington) ?? Had to ring the same mate to pick up my bike from the Wgtn motorway. Cop tried to tell me without saying the actual words to ride it home once he was gone and I'd be fine but I decided not to risk it.

Funny thing was that while I was on the train to pick up my bike the first time I was talking to a guy that got off a few tickets so he emailed me the letters he used. I ended up following those and all I got was some fines so I can't complain.

ummmm, i think i take the cake :o 65 in a 50 (was reduced from 72, he was a nice cop) that was $120 130kmh odd in a 100 zone, that was 300 odd (cant remember exactly)

Then there was the doozy on Christmas Eve, $55 Failing to show licence, $400 breeching conditions of licence. Then topped of by being charged with dangerous and failing to stop.....

Not the best year for me (ontop of crashing numerous times costing 1000's of $$$ :crybaby: )

So how do the traffic laws work where you are? I usually ride at about 80-90mph over here on 60 limit roads, though if no one's looking I'll go as fast as conditions allow. If I get the OK to move to NZ, what are my chances of keeping my license?
No idea what my speeds translate as in Kph, sorry.

You should be able to keep your license at least a month. Just choose wisely where you wind the beast up. Main State highways are nit the place to do it. Get on the secondary roads and you're usually ok. Still 120KPH through small towns with a 50k speed limit will still be frowned upon.

We have a points system like the UK does, except we have 100 point limit. 40kmh over the limit and you get 50 points. But if you do 50kmh over the limit then you get a intant 28 day suspension and your vehicle impounded for 28 days aswell

If you come on KB rides, we go out in the whop whops.... Very litte chance of cops.... But main highways are crawling with Highway Patrol...

We have a 100kmh limit on open roads (60mph) and if you do over 110kmh you will probably get a ticket... But on the back roads, i dont generally have a speed limit.... Unless we hit a township, then its back to 50kmh (30mph)...

Dude - check out my previous post in this thread. These wide open roads with relatively little traffic simply beg to be ridden fast. Nope, it was a collection of them all relating to the same idiot who was driving a clapped out heap of junk I had pink stickered the day before.

Drove without appropriate licence = $400
Drove pink stickered vehicle = $600
Removed pink sticker = $600
Expired Rego = $200
Expired WOF = $200
Drove an unsafe motor vehicle = $600

Opps, thats $2600, I sold myself short before.

I had written the car off the road the previous day because it was just a death trap, he was warned about his licence breach and the WOF & Rego and ordered not to drive the car. The next day I find him out driving the same shit heap again so he gets every ticket I could throw at him. He wasn't speeding though, the car could barely do 50kph.

Of course, it'll just sit unpaid on the MoJ's books for a few years and get written off eventually in some MP's crusade to make the outstanding fines statistics look good before an election. Or something.

I've always loved the masochistic possibilities inherent in a class 6 learner licence... with carefully managed breaches of the restrictions, you can get pulled over once, get 125 points for instant licence loss *and* be fined $2000 without doing ANYTHING that would be illegal if you had a full licence.

- Not displaying L-plate: $400, 25 points
- Riding a motorcycle with an engine above 250cc: $400, 25 points
- Carrying a pillion passenger: $400, 25 points
- Exceeding 70kph on the open road or motorway: $400, 25 points
- Riding between the hours of 10pm and 5am: $400, 25 points

All do-able in one quick licence-shredding trip... I seriously doubt any copper in his right mind would hit the average Joe Bloggs with *all* of the above in those circumstances, though.

Oh and last year and the year before and the year before

I think 150 odd for 80ish in a 70 or something like that last year.

And victory for me as I got off one for 'not obeying a road sign' or something when some rookie cop did me for riding in a bus lane within the cbd! What really annoyed me is that when I asked her why I was getting the ticket she said she had no idea and that they had ticketed another biker previous so I would get a ticket as well.

$650 in 2004 - $300 for 83 in a 50 and $200 because my rego had just run out, both on the same occasion, and another $150 two days later for running a red light. D'oh.

$300 in 2003 - $150 each for using a bus lane on the motorway and, on a separate occasion, using the emergency shoulder. That was before I discovered the Tao of Filtering, and attained Enlightenment.

yip but not across intersections controlled by traffic lights because of the brilliances of law only BUSES can use bus lights and bus lanes on intersections controlled by traffic lights. this is due to the fact that up to the lights it is local bylaw from the coucil that applies to the use of bus lanes, but since lights are transit it becomes there rules you need to follow for the 20m across the intersection!! dumb as a post some law makers i reckon.

so if i was riding along lawfully in bus lane and happen upon an intersection with a lit bus light i would have to stop and wait for a full green to go, the coucil suggests moving to the side of the lane and allowing buses to sneak by but since they go about 70k through auckland that just aint going to happen.
