I fix bikes.

I own a few.

I have sons who ride.

I write on here. Start some threads and reply to postings. Mostly I share my knowledge. Tell ppl what I know.

So when I post something, or start a thread, that is my opinion, I would like to think that ppl would accept it and respect it for what it is: A posting from a guy that has been there and done that.

But no. I get red blinged for my postings from young upstarts that tell me to get a fuckin life.

Not that I loose any sleep.

I can live with that.

I know that when they get to my age they will get the same.

But what really gets me is the PC brigade. The ones who know best, the ones who talk to their local politicians, thge ones who ride with dayglow vests. The ones who think they have all the answers, and think they have the right to tell me that I am wrong, that I need a red bing.

Guys (and gals) biking is about freedom.

When you start making rules you fuckers have lost it.

"You kids get off mah damn lawn, d'ya hear me? You will respect mah authoritah! Waaaaah!"

It's the internet old man, get over it. Unlike real life, you can't always choose who you share it with.

If the good aspects don't outweigh the bad for you, then I'd suggest you get off it. Or alternatively, you can put up with the few tossers (who, at the end of the day, have every right to disagree with your opinions, even if they do do it in a childish manner) and enjoy yourself.

Either way, I'd suggest you harden the fuck up.

I see a conflict here.
You tell people what you know (fact) OR your opinion.

Perhaps you need to make it clear which one it is, because a lot of argument seems to develop when people pose opinion as fact?

Not an accusation, just a suggestion.

Yeh let it go, bro. Just keep doing your thing. The thing with forums is, they filter for people who disagree with you, much more than people who DO agree with you, so you get a bit of that. Operations normal! Proceed!

And remember, people resort to abuse immediatly after losing an arguement.

Not an accusation, just a suggestion.Heres the error in that. "Everything on the internet is opinion."

There are a few people who speak in "fact", but mostly it is just "fact according to them", ie "opinion", so we end up at square one.

It's about time you took my defaced picture out of your fucking avatar too. You have no right to take personal pictures of people, deface them, and ridicule them on the Internet. Why do you think this has no effect on people? Why do you think it does not make you look smaller?

Perhaps what the 'old guard' need to stop and consider is the fact that, over the last 30 odd years that many of us have been riding, bikes have doubled in horsepower output and the speeds that they can attain, volume of traffic has doubled and yet inexperienced individual's skill levels and teenagers maturity have remained the same (and possibly even declined in the case of the latter).

Anyhow, take your "I am here to save the world as I am the only one who cares" attitude to the right thread. This one had nothing to do with hp or riding skills.

DB you couldn't win a argument with a 6yo - you cop abuse because you type stupid shit. often.

Still at least you have stopped threatening to call in the Media and "take it international" each time someone calls you a name.

The easy way to resolve this is to pm me the badge number. The hard way is to involve the media. I WILL report this, and I will do it the easy or the hard way, or the really hard way. His call.

Badge number please ?

DB

yup. Final request - badge number please, and the "name calling by police officer" leaves the Internet right now, or else it goes international. Your call.

nup you don't do you - spoken like a true officer o' the law. NEVER has any police officer actually done anything to assist me when I was victimised, yet they trip me on any administrative triviality at every opportunity, while simultaneously accusing me of wronging half of collective society. :bleh:

And further to Motu's post, motorcycles have been a huge part of most of my life also and yes I've met some pretty weird types but I have never felt any connection to an axe murderer just because they ride a motorbike. I wouldn't feel any connection to a motorcyclist who just likes to smack his wife around a bit for some Saturday night fun. Hell, I wouldn't even feel any connection to an habitual thief just because they ride a motorbike - I am not on their wave length.

The truth is Motu, motorcycling has never been 'your' world, or 'Conquistadors' world, or 'my' world. It is a world that is open to anyone who chooses to become a part of it.

Yes, motorcycling is becoming more mainstream - I'm loving that fact.

What he said. And I recall Mr Paul in NZ said something similar a while back.

I remember back when bikes were a LOT more common than they are now. And, or course, there were all sorts of people rode them. Hard core bad guys, students, cafe racers, old geezers riding to work, the whole gamut. But a pretty common thread was they all shared a common feeling about bikes. Good or bad. You could always have a yarn with a fellow motorcyclist, even if it was only to mutally complain about the weather and cops.

But now a new element seems to be becoming more and more prevalent - the "motorcycle as fashion accessory" . And they don't actually seem to have any feeling for bikes at all. It could just as well be a jet ski, or an Ipod or some other "gotta have" fashion accessory . And they bring with them an attitude that is completely foreign to old school bikers. A superciliousness I suppose it might be called. And as Mr Motu says, they want to change the rules. They regard a motorcycle as being a sort of two wheeled toy car. I don't like that.

They won't last of course, a few years and they'll have gotten bored with the toy and wandered of to play with something else. But they can do a lot of damage while they're around.

FWIW, I *don't* see it as a young fellow thing. The young ones are OK (OK, some of them are a bit cocky and disrespectful - gee , we were never like that at their age, eh?); but it's the older smarmy ones who get up my nose.

Red is good, red is a win.
I work hard for my reds.

With few exceptions, people think twice before handing out red. Will the person over react, will they hurl abuse, will they retalliate, will the cry to a mod (I hope so).
Red means you got under someone's skin and pissed them off.
How cool is that, you managed to fuck with someone elses mind from behind your keyboard, you may not even know them, but hey you upset them.

Have you any idea how long it took me to get red from Katman? But I finally got it.

Most of my reds are simply to fuck people off or fuck with them, e.g. when you know it grinds their gears that they can't see who gave them red, just give them another to grind them harder. If they get a new bike and are on top of the world, that's right give them red and tell them it's a fags bike just to take the gloss off a tad, all the better if they can't see who did it, cause that just grinds even more.

I was going to say, "Are you sure there weren't some guys like that around in the old days?", and then I realised that we didn't have such rampant consumerism then, nor did we have the rapid-change "what's hot this week" fashionism, nor the short attention span. So, you may be right.

Howzabout: "If you can't relate to the older generation because you're young, sorry, that's the truth" yadda yadda...???

I don't see the youngsters complaining because the old dogs won't play the game by their rules, More likely they are out riding their own road.

Some guys my age still believe modern motorcycling suffers from a disease, there is they believe in the modern expression of the machine a tragic lack of an ingrediant which gave early painters of our canvas a rich understanding of motorcyclings roots, that unique ability to combine the need for transport with an expression of the joys of the pioneer spirit, they firmly believe that engineers/designers of modern day have succesfully removed the game of chance,no more torpedo of unreliability to sink our ship.Any youngster who dares cross there path on something that looks good/goes well and gets them to there destination on time deserves all the scorn poured upon them.:shifty:

I meant within the context of this thread/discussion, And I personally can forgive the youngsters for being dipshits. But your point is noted.

Though for all I know I have been cast aside as an ignorant youth whose over-stepping the mark and doesn't understand real motorcycling., Whats the cut off point?

There's no cutoff point.
Attitude has nothing to do with age. Although generally, fecklessness and recklessness are more often associated with callow youths, though not exclusively.

"When I was young I believed I knew everything.
Now when I am old and I know everything I realise how wrong I was then."
[Conquiztador 2008]

I have no problem with the young uns. I have not forgotten that I was one of them many years ago and I would have been very opinionated already then. And often the old uns those days had enough of me. Very seldom will I come across any young PC brigadieers.

It's the older ones who want to tell everyone how to live their life, and when they are told to piss off, they want rules in place so everyone has to obey their view. They are the ones who get up my nose.

Hell, I wouldn't even feel any connection to an habitual thief just because they ride a motorbike - I am not on their wave length.
... I'm loving that fact.

Would you feel any connection to some motorcycle riding arsehole who drinks to excess on a saturday night and then posts random shit on the internet?:Pokey:

PC bullshit has nothing to do with age, although I deplore the fact that our education system is rife with it.
Maturity has nothing to do with age either...

..gets them to there destination on time deserves all the scorn poured upon them.:shifty:

What would be the fun in that? I am always surprised if I get to my original destination al all, let alone "on time" , whatever that means. I have , where biking is concerned, no concept of "on time". "When will you be back, dear". "Oh, I don't know, some time tonight, probably".

How can I possibly know if I will arrive at a destination "on time" when I have no idea where the road may take me, and thus no idea of the length of the journey. Even supposing that, by improbable chance, the vagaries of the road actually direct me to my original destination. Assuming I had one. "Where are you going , dear". "Oh, I don't know. Southish, probably. Or maybe East. Or north. To start with . "

It is this poverty of spirit, the loss of the original concept of motorcycling as a freedom from the shackles of societal imposed restrictions of time and place, that I deplore.

a PC society is simply the outcome of everyone being taught to blame others for stuff (i.e. make it easy to take offense at ANYTHING and not laugh at yourself when a comment is made at your expense)...

so now we have everyone worried about not offending others, when we should be more worried about just getting along in good humour. Fucks sake, enough people make jokes at my expense, including me...

Yeah - PC is bad... so deal with it - ignore it as necessary

Living is about freedom!

OK, I buy that.

But when you go to work at a certain time, dress a certain way so you fit in, pay the bills even if it uses the last dollar, do all the "have to's" even if you don't want to, then freedom at times is in short supply.

But then you jump on the bike to get away from it all, to actually be free. Leave all worries behind, no phone, be incognito behind that helmet, focus on the riding and let the wind blow all the worries away.

That is freedom. Until that is also tampered with...

There are only two things we all have to do in life; take up space, and die.

Everything else is a choice with consequences.

The very essence of this thread is hypocritical at best.

Dont get me wrong, I find some of what you sat to ring true, but there's a catch...

Motorcycling is freedom to some of us, and with that freedom comes the catch, that anyone else can feel free to do whatever they want also.

Freedom and the rules that dictate it? A contradiction in itself sorry.
