View Full Version : How to get the girlfriend to use protection?

Winter
18th October 2008, 10:16
I'm in a bit of a pickle.. Can't get my girlfriend to wear anything other than a lid on the back of my bike.

Simple you say? don't let her on?

Theres no way I would live with myself If I binned and she lost her skin. So it sounds simple no gear, no ride.

But now comes the problem of me turning up to work on my bike (we work at the same place, often start at different times but finish tlogether).
Now I've got to make her get the bus home? 35+min whilst I'm home in 10?

No sex for me tonight then :(

I don't know how to make her understand the importance of gear, even after a near fatal bin of my own. I've offered to buy her gear, but can't get her to the shop to try any on!

Any suggestions?

I've resorted to taking the car lots more in an effort to not put myself in that situation.

I had the same sort of problem with my new missus. It took some time to get her in all the gear but i tried to make it look like her idea :)by dropping into bike shops in the car.First she started looking at leather pants told her gee you look good in them .Flattery is a great way to get your own way :)Gloves and decent boots just took a few rides in some cold rain

Reverse psychology mate, tell her you won't have sex with her until she lets you take her shopping:cool:

Ask her what the problem is.

It's pretty clear you have discovered that you can't "make" chicks "do" anything, so full marks there. Sounds to me like you have a creative discovery process in front of you - whats really the problem?

You could just say "no gear, no ride" but you might lose more than you gain.

From personal experience, don't let her on without gear. You're better off losing the girlfriend than having to sit around in waiting rooms waiting for surgery to finish.

But then we're not allowed express opinions based on personal experience because Conquiztador gets angry.

Show her this, or does she need something stronger?

jrandom

Does she have nice gear?

If all she has is cheap ill-fitting bulky cordura shit I'm not surprised she doesn't want to wear it.

Get her a nice Dainese leather jacket and some decent boots that are comfortable enough to walk in. Actually, check out the Quasimoto ladies jackets as well. And Rev'it make some very plush and tidy-looking riding gloves.

Trousers are usually the most pain-in-the-arse part of gear to deal with - I'm personally happy to let the missus on the back in plain trousers like she wears to work, so long as she's wearing all the other gear, but I guess you gotta stick to whatever level of safety you're comfortable with.

Read this: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=36732&highlight=road+rash+chick

It would appear the guy riding was a moron, but when hitting the road is a foregone conclusion it makes no diffference who is at fault.

I have to agree.

She will soon realise that being on the back with the gear is better than a bus ride any day and come to her senses, especially since you get home so quickly. You have to be cruel to be kind and if she can't see that you are just doing her a favour, she just isn't worth the hassle.

Take a female friend that is about the same size as your girlfriend and just go and buy the gear. Tell her that she wears it or she can't get on. She will have no excuse.

No sex for me tonight then

When this act next happens......point out to g/f whos got the protection.
If you both have, then you both should have when on the bike. Both acts can be just as dangerous, sure, you shouldn't get broken bones or road scuffs during sex (if you do then think, location/location/location) but the female becoming pregnant or a STD is likely without protection right?
On a bike, the suffering you endure if you survive could be horrendous ....much worse than giving birth (cant speak from experience but I have heard) giving birth feels like someone pulling your bits up over your head and stapling it to the back of your neck....:pinch:

You need a way to get inside her head. Let Google be your friend but pick images that look a lot like your g/f but with various bits missing. Not nice. That should do the trick. BTDT.

She has issues - she does not mind helmet-hair but will not wear riding gear?

She doesn't read the naked news by any chance?

I suggest you take her for a walk around the block - at some point when she least expects it trip her up. This will hurt, she may even get a bit scuffed up. She will complain - just tell her 'that's nothing, what the F do you think would happen if you were on my bike doing 100 and we came off?????'

She will realise how much you care and she will be all over you that night (you may even get 'behind the hedge sex' on the way home).

Let me know how this goes for you.......<_<

Perhaps I should get photos of how hot all the KB chicks look in their gear! Then I could use that as persuasion

Thanks for some good advice. I'll get her down soon as then, theres a hot white jacket at motomail for 600 notes or so.

I wonder if the shopkeep would help out and remove the price tags / put fake ones on so she wouldn't complain I was spending too much?

Lots of good advice, I think if you can find her a sexy fitted jacket like the ones Quasi's site was showing and some cool dragon jeans she'll be happy to wear gear. I see lots of chicks wearing some awesome fitted stuff on bikes, nice to see that there is variety of tastes and colours (it's not all black).

I love my white Shift leather fitted jacket (Motomail), cost around $800 bucks from memory but it's because I'm worth it and it's saved my skin more than once (and still looks mint).

I've seen the Quasi girl ones at Taupo trackdays and they look awesome in the pastels (pink & blue), nice shape and great price.

Think i may have posted this b4 but my wife got a GN250 to learn on and a full codura riding suit (jacket and pants) she shows up at my work to go for a ride only wearing the jacket and her jeans one day so i said to her either go home and put on ALL of your new gear or you aint coming out with me....she complains that its too hot and begrudgingly rides home to get the rest of her gear.
Later that afternoon she slides across a hairpin corner into an amco.
Thank God im more stubborn than her.

Right, thanks everyone for your comments..

I thought about it some more, looked at more photos, had sex, thought about it a bit more, and the answer became clear.

Its ME who is being the dick here. I'm being soft, giving in to her wanting to go without gear.

So I told her. straight out, that I cant and absolutely won't let her on again untill we get her full kit. I said it means she will be getting the bus home alot, so we better get it sorted quick :)

So now I'm looking for gear, the hard part is going to be letting me pay for it.

Thanks :)

Yeah I tend to agree, but when you have someone that is that blind to the consequences it's a tough call.
I think the answer that SkidMark has come to (which is the preferred option IMO) is the right way to go.

Half my riding life the only protection I owned was a leather jacket and gloves but today I wear almost as much as I can fit on!

Why?

We have to learn from the mistakes made by others, it's too painfull making them all ourselves!

Unfortunately for many of "my" teachers, it was the last leason they ever taught anyone.

You need to take her on your bike when the weather's not sunny and warm.
Or when it is, but you know it's going to rain later in the day.

Has she actually said what the problem is? My wife's had no problems with getting gear of her own, in fact, we're going to upgrade her pants and jacket (they seem to have shrunk, plus she envies my 4-season gear).
