So are they model specific. had one on my SV650 but sold the bike, kept the rack frame. Have a Ducati 900ss now.

Most pack rack systems have standard racks, but with model-specific mounting brackets. You may be able to source brackets to suit.

The L brackets are model specific, the pack frames fit quite a few different models though there are about 5 or 6 (or more!) different width's of them to fit different model bikes.
If you're lucky there should be a part number stamped on the pack frame or on the later ones a sticker with a number like PF6 or PF14 etc., some just have the number.
Otherwise check out their website http://www.ventura-bike.com and you should be able to suss it out. Just go to fitments and click on the relevant make & model and it shows all the parts that fit each bike.

We have two bikes with them fitted and they are quite different widths. No way they would be interchangable in our case, you may have fluked it though.
