View Full Version : 4wd taps me from behind

Just our riding in this glorious wellington weather, and this woman in a Pajero, decides to 'nudge' me at the lights turning right, then beep her horn. I saw her approaching slowly, so it wasn't a "didn't see you" mistake. Normally if people do a tail ender, the last thing they'll do is honk the horn.

Luckily only my number plate was scratched and bent.

As part of my belief in naming and shaming - it was a Pajero with license plate CKG64 (with a painting advert and cellphone number on the spare wheel cover - I know as I let her go past to have a good look).

Be careful out there. Some people just have no respect for life and safety.

Dave.

I would have liked to, but old enough to know if you don't have the expertise, then you might likely come worse off.

Thought about just reporting it to the police, but they probbaly have hundreds per day and nothing is done. I might use the Police web site though. Probably goes into the trash straight away, but the vent or feeling of reporting someone makes you feel better.

I try to be courteous to give us bikers a good name... maybe she was having a bad day. As they say, 90% of how a person treats you comes from what has happened before. You might have just been the straw that broke that camels back.

Anyway... off to do some more riding!

Dave.

If she actually hit you (nudged whatever) then left without assessing the damage to your vehicle or you wouldn't this be a hit and run?

I would say definitely report it. If there was no contact that would be another story but if she actually hit you, she was aware of it and left without stopping there is just no excuse.

Report through the police website, they do follow up on all complaints, either they contact the person or they contact you saying the rego was wrong ;)

Also, you can call *555 and report it there, if she gets caught doing something else stupid they will contact you and add it to her charges.

Where abouts were they? Just curious if they are local to Johnsonville....

Just on the idea of reporting things....

On my way to work lately the city roads have been damp. And every day a trail of oil can be seen for Kms along the road.
Some vehicle is obviously leaking a lot of oil, yet continues to be used every day.

If I tracked said vehicle to it's source and gave that info to police, would they do anything about it?

Unlikely but then if you went to take the time to do this you could perhaps advise the owner, unless of course the said vehicle looks to be unwarranted or registered perhaps a call tall to the police might be in order, how much effort do you want to put in.

Report it. A few weeks ago wife was taking me to work in the Nissan March (hoho) looks in the rear view and says "girl behind is on her mobile" next moment ...crunch. I hop out of the car spiting tacks with steam coming out of my ears. Bloke next to her says "just a little bump, no damage" (without looking or an apology) they drive round us and away without stopping at the intersection. Reported it and the cops were all good, tracked them down and phoned me from their house asking if any damage. They will have ended up with a hefty fine. They could have escaped with and apology.:done:

Well, it looks like I fucked up recording the plate (mental note - I was too busy riding). My mobile was out of reach otherwise I would have made a note of the 021 painting number.

Looks like reporting to the police won't wear if I have the plate wrong - shit it.

It happened in town on the corner of taranaki and wakefield about 1:30pm. I was heading north, turning right from wakefield onto taranaki.

Still - I was lucky the touch was slight and i didn't fall.

That's wear riding in a group or with a pillion.... you have a few more level heads to take details that you otherwise will screw up.

Cheers and safe riding,
Dave.

They often do... as do ACC... WINZ...most goverment department offices.
I recall an old ex flatmate (worked for, then the post office) told me ALL calls are recorded, just have to state numbers involved, time of day, what day etc not long afterwards, to access / use / get a copy.

As i stated, I am an inexperienced rider, but have enough life skills to know you usually come off second best in the heat of the moment trying to retaliate. Knowing me, I would have aggravated her into running me over. My newbiness probably would have stalled the bike, or gone around a corner too quick or slow ending up with me on the road (or under her wheels).

I am actually most pissed off now I didn't calm down and take proper details to dob her in.

I'll consider myself lucky... and her time will keep. If I ever find her vehicle, I'll leave a note under the windscreen, rather than damage her car. It will warn her that her next motorcycle victim might well be the opposite and give her a serving she will regret. Something like that usually gets more of a message through than what they'll see as a random act of unconnected damage to a vehicle.

I found my stolen car many years ago with persistence and brought that person to justice (as in the law - not my own), so will apply the same process here.

Thanks for the support guys.... and if this happens to you. Take several deep breaths, pull over and see if the other driver does the same. Get the details and record them and report then straight away.

My partner is away at the moment and ours is a shared bike. I haven't told her as she would be concerned without reason and spoil her weekend away. I'll show her the number plate scar on her return. I've heard that chicks dig scars

Cheers,
Dave.

I see your point. I guess my comment was a bit harsh and I take it back.

If it was me in that situation the outcome would have been completely different though, but it wasn't me.

At least make sure you get the bitch's rego right next time!

Did you get the company name? And what colour was it?

davebullet
20th October 2008, 06:54
It just had a graphic and the word "painting" in black letters under it, then the 021 number under that. The graphic probably had the company name, but as you can guess - I got every other detail wrong, so don't recall that either!

The closest 4wd I can get (using www.carjam.co.nz) is actually a Prado if I rearrange the rego letters and numbers to CGK46. I wouldn't make a very good detective, that's for sure!

Dude I would get her address from the post office and go around and give it a gentle "nudge" with a rock through the back window while it's parked in the drive way. Unfortunately some "people" seem to drive like fuck wits when they own 4X4s because they know they are nice and safe and anyone else will get fucked if the crash into them, seems to give them a desire to drive like they don't give a fuck about anyone else on the road. You also come across this from some truck drivers to, they know they are safe so don't care about pulling out in front of you or tailgating the crap out of you.

I thought if you got most of the plate or even just some of it and the make and model, then the cops could figure out the rest and follow it up?!

I had a woman in a BMW car pull out in front of me today on a round-a-bout! And it wasn't because she didn't see me either.. She looked straight at me and pulled out anyway! She must've believed no-one would dare to touch her beemer. I just shake my head... she'll get the learn from someone some day.

the sparkplug that you keep in your pocket in case your set fouls that just happens to drop out and head towards their windscreen at high velocity seems to make them learn quick
