I have a mate with a hyosung gt250r . I think it is about 2004 or newer.
he is new to bikes (probably explains the hyosung) and has not that much mechanical knowledge.
Recently his bike started missing and not running smoothly at all.

Someone else suggested blocked carb so he pulled apart and found no problems there and put back together again........

now it won't even fire let alone start and run properly. When the starter is pressed it happily does what it should but no ignition occurs.

is there a hyosung owner out there who may be able to point in the right direction..............do these bikes have known problems like this?

otherwise we go through all the options one by one.......spark, fuel, carbs, etc..........

of course it is also possible he put it together wrong somehow......didn't have time to check that today.

obviously hyosung is the pinnacle of engineering excellence then,

no-one has heard of similar problems at all...have found a manual for it and will attempt to find the problem if said mate wants me to bring the bike to my place where there are lots of tools...........

at the very least i may have a great time pulling it apart................

Good on ya for helping your mate out... Sorry, I'm not going to be much help, except to say, I'd start with the fuel pump/tap. My Hyo cuts out after a sustained power run, and we will be pulling apart the fuel tap and pump to check these in the next day or two. All I can say, really, is all the best!...

I've got a service manual in .pdf if you want it.

It's not a problem i've come across yet, good luck finding the problem though.

Ok I suggest before you go to far that you aquire a workshop manual, ( buy, beg, borrow, or Steal) and READ it, yep it will cost you some hard earned, but it will be the most valuble tool you buy for your bike.
Ok the next good tool bor the beginner home Mechanic is a note book and pen, this is so you can draw an exploded diagrame of what ever you are pulling appart, to lessen the chances of the old Parts Left Over trick, and so you also know how to reassemble the part and in what order, also having a nice clean Work Bench area so you can methodicaly lay parts out in the order you take things apart, I have a oil drip tray from Super Cheap, its a thin zink plated steel tray that you would put under your car or bike if it had an oil leak, I use this when I am pulling apart Carbs so I dont loose any of those small easy to loose bits, like jets and needls etc, this also catches any spilt petrol from the carbs.
my first port of call would have been to check the spark plugs.
you want to go through things in a methodical manner and check the easy things first.

When the starter is pressed it happily does what it should but no ignition occurs. If theres no spark, swap the CDI for a known-good one. The early CDIs were known issues, but I'm surprised that one has worked well so far.

situation update

mate got his bike running sort of and was coming over so we could have a look see at it tonight.

stopped going 3k or so from his place. Would re-start, running like shit and then cut out as soon as he engaged gear......presumably once under any sort of load.
So he is currently pushing it home and i will take a trailer and pick it up on wednesday after work.

And yes i fully intend to start with the simple stuff first.

thanks for the replies so far

cut out as soon as he engaged gear......bypass the stand switch and see if that fixes it.

i have got the bike at my place now and apparently the cutting out problem occurs under engine load at pretty much any revs and the bike pretty much stops completely and then cuts back in sorta like a push start.

starts fine but was idling at 5000rpm.

have taken carbs off and discovered half the screws missing from bottom of float bowls.

but they were all there when the initial problem arose.

have checked the plugs and air filter and they are good.

There are too many varying descriptions of things to offer any concise suggestions. Also, it appears that someone else has worked on it (carb screws missing).

I would check the carbs over to make sure they are complete. Also, I would find out who else had been fiddling with it, and ask them what they had done, and talk to the rider, so you can have a clear background to the original fault.

even with talking to the owner it was difficult to really define the fault.

however after pulling apart and checking things, cleaning and reassembling correctly last night the owner rode home on a fault free bike about 1.00a.m. this morning.

may never no what the problem was but i still suspect carburettor.......

so theres a red hyosung back on the road.............oh yay.........at least its not a honda
