I had an '86 model back in '91.

I didn't do the obligatory piston and rings at 10,000kms, thrashed it everywhere and it self destructed at 25,000kms.

I chucked a $600 import motor in and it went like a cut cat again.

You need to check and/or replace piston and rings about every 10,000km, especially if riding it hard, but this applies to all two stroke 250's IMO. Other than that, it was very reliable.

My '86 was as quick if not quicker than '90 and '91 RGV's, and handled like a dream. I absolutley loved it and would have another one if the budget allowed.

Great fun on a thrash but not very good for commuting or long, high speed straights.

yeah with all the crap i've heard about 2 strokes i don't really think i can be bothered, can you suggest a good reliable 4 stroke 250 that can still go reasonably quick?

ZXR250's and CBR250's are what everyone likes........ so you pay more too

Honda's VTR is a great naked choice, there's the Hornet too. Zeal, Bandit......

ZZR250 for something slower and heavier, but OK........ will get you from A to B, especially if A is a long way from B.
Just take them all for rides and pick the one you like.

.

Those or GSXR250R (look WT I endorsed a Zooki !!) would be about as quick as you get for a 4 stroke 250.

Unless your name is Velox of course........

I had an 87 NS250R back in about 92, the silver version - farkin legendary machine, loved every second of it - i'd love to have another just for arsing around on in the twisties, etc....just no good for touring and relatively expensive to run

To be honest, I prefer the NS250R to the NSR250R... a simpler time, and a little comfier to ride. 16" front wheel FTW :D The NS250 is very Honda... get one, you'll see what I mean.
