The whiny slimeball just appeared on the telly and attempted to convince me that his policies would incent me to do... something or other.

'Incent'.

What the fuck kind of verb is 'incent'?

I can't believe he actually used that word with a straight face on national television.

I suppose 'motivate' was deemed overly blunt. Wouldn't want to condescend too obviously to the electorate before the reins of power are secured.

Goddamn motherfucking wanky corporatespeak.

May he and his cohorts of third-rate spin doctors burn forever in the vilest pits of hell.

So he gets your vote, then?

Perhaps he (JK) meant "incense"?

D'ye think he meant incite? Or incentivise?

My wife tells me I mustn't hate John Key. Apparently (despite wearing a blue tie) National are not the tory bastards that fucked me and my countrymen over for two decades.

I'm still struggling with that though....

Gosh, I'm no Labour supporter. Certainly not this election, anyhow.

That doesn't change the fact that Mr Key is a corporatespeak-spouting twat.

Slow news day?

Quiet, you, I'm busy incentivising my ass with a carrot.

Ah, a hint of dissent, there.

Been looking, incidentally. Our American friends seem to find it incensurable.

Sir, show some sense; your descent into incidental insolence is fit to incense the insensate.

A close descendent, perhaps.

Right, right, stop it. This thread is getting too silly. Started off with a nice little rant about syntax, but now it's got silly.

All of you, go on now. Move along. Off you go.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/incent

tr.v. in·cent·ed, in·cent·ing, in·cents
To incentivize: "would use tax breaks to incent corporations to invest in their future" (Scott Canon).

Are you just complaining cos it's Merken English (such as it is)??

Never mind "incent", I think BDOTGNZA should be worried that the next government are prepared to demonstrate on bloody great billboards that they don't know the difference in usage between "less" and "fewer".

That one had not gone past the BDOTGNZA's Roadside Billboards Committee. An obviously contrived photo of The Right Honorable The Prime Minister has also troubled them...
