Want to buy: bike for beginner

Looking to spend $1000 until full is acquired at least and then see what happenes then.

Needs to be below 250c.c. and 4 stroke preferable. Don't need to have performance but must have no/minimal rust :2thumbsup

what do you guys reck'n? I don't actually have alot to spend on and these are what I have found so far:

1984 Suzuki GN250 - $500

another one is
1989 Suzuki GSXR250 - $900

PS: not in a hurry to get one so if anyone's building one up cheap I can wait :done:

The $500 on the GN250 is the starting bid, the reserve hasn't been met yet. Will probably go for a little more than a grand. However, they are good, TOUGH learners bikes. Probably a safe bet. I don't know much about the other bike. I'm guessing it would be a sporty 250cc, with full fairings (expensive if/when you fall over).

But, don't let that stop you, I never fell off, or crashed my first learners bike which had full fairings.

the only setback is... that's in bloody masterton!

dunno if I can withstand 18 hours of driving just to get a bike :angry2:

anyone know how much it costs to ship a bike up from masterton to auckland?

I'd recommend the Suzuki FXR-150 for a first bike. Late model, real easy to ride. light weight, four stroke, sporty looking. Electric and kick start, gear position indicator, fuel level indicator.

These things can go for $1500 to $2500. Just hunt on Trademe for one.

If your not in a hurry I would recommend having a look at Turners auctions, they sell some damaged bikes every now and again (you can look on their website) and you may find a good deal???

On the other hand, it will be damaged but if you have a bit of nouse you may be able to fix them up for a reasonable price? Its worth a look, but don't get your hopes up, mainly larger bikes get wrecked it seems :)

yeah, not in a hurry at all - gonna go down to Penrose and pay $180 for a foundation building lesson on how to ride bikes + the handling test and then go for the theory

realistically speaking, probably start riding after end of feb / beginning of march sorta thing but i got 6 months to wait before i'm even eligible to apply for restricted so nope, no hurry at all :yes:

hey thx for the info but i'm really strict on the budget so only looking at up to 1000 and nothing else. I've checked the FXR-150 but as you've mentioned, they're all $1500+ great bikes, but outta my league :disapint:
