Hi There
Is there anything that one should be aware of when considering buying an 03/04 R1.
Any common faults that afflict them?
Cheers

You should be aware that you are looking at a classy bike! :niceone:
I don't think that there are any serious issues with them but like any bike they can through up a problem or to from time to time, it's just the luck of the draw and going into the purchase with your eyes open. Look for all the obvious things, any documents of the service history etc...

I'm having trouble descerning the different models, its listed as 2004 (single side can model) but some of the 04 reviews I looked at pictured the under tail exhaust.
So I'm not 100% on its pedigree. 2004 runout model maybe???

I'd be wary about buying an older R1. Especially if it has had a couple of owners.
The R1 is one of the archetypical hoon bikes so many of them have been thrashed and/or poorly maintained.
This isn't to say that you can't find a good used one, but you should at least go into it with open eyes.

There are no real problems with them. The one you are looking at is an 03 model. The 04 had underseat pipes.
Dont worry how owners it has had most people can only ride them at 75% before they need a change of undies hehehe so they are not often worn out. Lots of kms on the clock is better than lots of dents in the tank or frame. Buy one, have fun.
