Hi All,
I finished my first VMCC winter series this year in Clubmans A, my advise to anyone who has ever considered going racing is **Just do it!**
From sitting on the side of a mx track in nov 07 with a broken arm and 3 cracked ribs, I decided it was time for a change.
I called up the only person I knew who had any idea on road racing and purchased a 1999 CBR600 for my first weapon.(Thanks Andy Crighton for all your help!) gave it a quick black and white paint job and slapped number 47 on it, joined the VMCC club and waited for May and round 1 to arrive.
SO much to learn, I found out at round 1 at Taupo that tyre pressures matter quite a bit and tyre warmers could possibly be quite good too!
I crashed on lap 1 of the first race:doh!! so the day was over but had already learnt alot. The other thing hard was learning how the meeting ran, for example, I read the programme and it said 'Scrub' dam what the heck was that!
The next few rounds came together pretty good and everyone is keen to help you out with your stupid questions and tell you what is going on when you have no idea.
THEN THERE IS THE RACING!
So much different when you are doing it, being tapped out down the middle straight and a KTM Super duke is right next to you looking like he's trail riding!(Thanks Frank) changing down how many gears in the corners? and then checking your lap time to see how slow you really are ! oh well never mind
You are sure you must have been scrapping footpegs around the corners-and then you see photos taken the the great photographers!hmmm not so low! lol!
All in all it is a great sport with lots of great guys and gals to watch and learn from.
I managed to end up with a PB of 1.16.3 in round 6 which I was happy with.
Thanks to all the riders and officials of the club and once again, if you are thinking of racing do it, I'll see you somewhere no doubt because I'm hooked.
Brian
