Pure bike tours is $125 per hour for adult and $100 for child rate. seemed a bit steep for a try out....I'm not too sure of goin rate tho

Hi TomJ - my suggestion would be to watch out for the Honda trail ride series and get him on a demo bike on a kids track. There are a few around - though you might have to travel a few kms.Does he have any mates with gear that he could borrow just to have a blast? Theres probably a few on kb here that would be willing to meet at a trail ride and let him have a go.

Maddix Park is the local track at the end of Rowe Rd. Go for a look and ask around. The TMCC are having a cross country race on the 1 Nov and a fun day/prize giving on the 9 Nov at Maddix.

Hey.. 45mins up the road in waihi I can do you an introductory ride!
I have a small CRF100 with a seat hieght of 86cm. Im set up with riding gear for people from 30inch waist and size 8 boots. so he may have to bring a couple of pairs of socks.
My beginner riding area is right next to town and is all buttercupsand spring lambs at the moment. its an easy as scenic farm loop with a couple of optional stream crossings. I do a two hour intro ride with 1 on 1 coaching for $90. Perfect for kids and wives who just want to have a go.
Click on my link below and have a look around

Don;t know about actually getting him on a bike (cheapest way is probably a wee quad off TM) but maybe you could get him going as a pillion too?

Lots of great ideas and offers, you have been very generous. We will have a think about all these different suggestions and go from there. We may find the local ones easier for us - but still it is neat that people are prepared to put themselves out to help noobs to the off road world!!!

My 3 year old girl is the same. Try explaining to little miss why she can't ride a 1200 touring bike by herself.
