It had to happen one day...................the old girl has had a terminal seizure... after 28 years of good hard riding and over 5 laps of the planet...i think the poor old girls crank has parted company in the centre....shes been a bit smokey too in the last 10 000.
I'm going to write to that nice Mr Yamaha and ask if he'll find me a new lump for a well loved and rather used XS1100 ...after all....when i got the old girl on 2nd Aug 1980 the advert said
"A BIKE FOR LIFE"....i've still got the ad, and i'm still alive.......Christ its only done give or take 340,000 k's...........I'M PISSED OFF........GOING TO THE PUB......................Who can lend me $25K ish for another toy, as my other is in bits awaiting surgery.

Only 340,000 kms? No wonder you are pissy. I'd be wanting my money back too.

I'M starting a petition to Mr Yamaha........if everyone will sign it perhaps he will cave in and give the old girl a new lease of life......after all look at the amount of good advertising i've given him in 28 years.

Ah, dude, what Mr Yamaha had in mind was the statistical likelihood of his fine machine killing you, thus fulfilling his contract at pretty much exactly the agreed time.

You're not playing the game right.

That was in the early 80's..! They probably figured most 1100 owners would have killed themselves within 24 months. :weird:

So therefore the ad was quite accurate.

Saw something like this before .... a mate tried a similar thing in the UK (similar advert - bike for life) and was told that he needed a full dealer service history ..... imagine the cost of that! How many new bikes do you recon you could have bought since '80 if you'd paid for that lot.

How many times do you recon that crank turned around?

Will you be wanting to source another bottom end?
If so i will ask my mate Darrel if any of the XS1100 bottom ends he has are serviceable. And a price.

'Prox 17,850,264 times.

Not including the 10080 it did in that time, like everything else does once every day.

Might be a good time to throw in a new set of rings and lap the valves too.

Bugger. Must have been a manufacturing defect. Reckon they should cover it under warranty.

Brilliant idea.

Think VW did it once, wound all the motoring rags up about a Wabbit, (from memory) that'd done some utterly rediculous mileage and that they'd therefore rebuilt for free.

The exposure had to be well worth the paltry few hundred quid.
