View Full Version : Why so few bikes on Trademe?

There is a very obvious drop in the amount of bikes up for sale on Trademe in the last couple of months. Why is that? Is everyone hanging onto them for the summer? I don't remember last summer having such a drop in availability, I typically thought more people started selling due to thinking they'd get a higher price around now. And with all this attention on the recession I would've thought people would be scrambling to get rid of their bikes and get some much needed money. What's going on?

I can only guess that its because its summer coming up.

But sadly I believe we will see a lot more of the 'sunday ride' high value bikes coming up for sale as people tighten the belt on 'toys'

And why would people wanna sell their bikes when public transport sucks and petrol is so high!

I guess that there are different types of bikers.

My mate who I ride with has a 4x4, cage and the bike (with another on order) - to him the bike is just a toy and he rides weekends (and the occasional evening ride) only. He wouldn't think of using the bike to commute.

If someone is in that position and they are paying off the bike and $$$ gets tight its the 'toys' that go.

Global economic crisis = paranoia in the consumer world?

i recon it's the fuel thing... people are buying bikes and holding on to them as commuters. Has anyone noticed how many scooters are on the road now. it's like ho chi minh city down here

agreed. I'm thinking this summer we'll see an explosion of people wanting to get onto bikes (already witnessed with the availability of the 250 ninja 09s?)

Well I'm doing my best to buck the trend, I've just added another bike to the fleet - I think it was advertised on TradeMe by the dealer so I guess you can blame me for there being one less....

I bought my last bike on trademe. Took four months to get it into Australia (lots of paperwork!). Will arrive in my garage tomorrow morning. :wari:

Yep same, very sorry bout that but I bought one off trade me two weeks ago as well thus depleting the current stocks, won't happen again for at least another 6 months, I promise :innocent:

I'll be getting my full soonish, and looking to sell the SR250 and get something a bit ballsier.

This is probably a good time to sell petrol-sipping learner bikes, and a good time to buy people's weekend toys.

I don't know what's causing it, but I noticed it two days ago looking for a CBR600 for a friend. I am always looking at CBR600's and there's always been more than 2-3 pages of them. Not on Wednesday there wasn't - just 3 bikes in total! That is seriously wierd. All that makes sense is that people are hanging onto them and not running up credit to upgrade.
