New DVD - any ideas?

I'm on the lookout for a new DVD player. Got speakers just need a decent stand-alone unit. Somewhere around the $500 mark.

Any recommendations

A little known brand, but the Oppo has the best picture quality of any DVD player on the market.
Failing that, why not look at Blu-Ray? With native 1080 x 1920P resolution, if you have a modern hi-res lcd/plasma tv or projector this new format will amaze you.
I've got a Samsung BD-P1400 and use it with an Epson 1080P projector on a 120" screen, and picture quality is jaw dropping!
