Was just over at the TL website and read a thread by a guy who pulled up at a set of lights and lifted his visor, lights change and he pulls away then flips his visor down only to see a set of disco lights in his mirror, pulls over and is issued a ticket for $100 reason, not wearing eye protection<_< Hopefully those that decide our fate dont follow the rulemakers in the states eh.

Well that puts it in a bit more context. No different to any other wee traffic law, wear a seat belt etc. We sometimes don't do it & get caught out

Seen plenty of pics of american bikers (usually riding choppers) wearing goggles but no helmet

Sounds a lot like the last ticket I got for not wearing a seat belt...
"I just pulled out of the servo & hadn't quite got to the putting on of the seatbelt part just yet"

Actually, it does. In many of the helmet-less states you still have to wear eye protection. Not an unreasonable rule IMO, although it sounds that the incident referred to at the start of the thread was unreasonable enforcement.
The AMA site has a handy guide to what states require what (incl. mirrors, indicators etc).
