I know it's a week late, but i've been busy. Get over it.

EPIC GIG.

The line outside was hilarious, bogans behind us skulling Woody cans in front of the Cops, acting surprised when the Rozzas asked them politely to empty out their booze. When said idiots didn't comply, three of them were escourted off the premises. That shut the remaining ones up. Haha.

Was suprised at the amount of Machine Head shirts on display, They were the drawcard for me, but I didn't think that so many fans would be of the same mind, I thought it would be far outweighed by bopper-Slipknot junkies, of which there were a few. Picked up a Machine Head hoodie at the outrageous price of $100, but it is pretty cool. Not so cool was having to wear it for the rest of the fucking gig in the sweltering heat.

Missed the opening band due to being in the queue, Machine Head entered in to "Clenching The Fists Of Dissent", it took about 3 songs before they found their rythim...ruthym...ryth...groove, but once they did they seemed to have a storming good time. Heaps of new stuff (which is awesome as the new stuff is amazing), playing the full 8 minute versions of songs, and not sutting out any solos. Sound needed a bit of work as it was hard to differentiate the guitars, but fairly good overall.

Slipknot far exceeded my expectations. I saw them at the '05 Big Day Out, and was just expecting another shock and awe show. Played a lot of older stuff, including a much welcomed "Prosthetics". Some stupid crowd banter though, such as "We're gonna set another record here, and play you a song that has never been played before......... in New Zealand". What, you mean it wasn't one of the nine songs you played here the only other time you've been here? Puh-leese. Shouting "Are you read Sydney?" caused a bit of confusiuon though.

Anthemic chorus singalongs "If you're 555 then i'm 666", "People equal shit", etc. A coulpe of gaping admissions from the setlist though. No "My Plague", or "Wait And Bleed"? Bit weak there lads.

Overall, impressed by the undersogs in my eyes (Slipknot), and stoked to see Machine Head finally.

8/10

If I was going to go, I would have gone for Machine Head.

Not such a big fan of Slipknot. I would have thought that Slipknot would have been opening for Machine Head :first:

Wish i coulda been there.

Saw Machine Head a couple of years ago in a small venue in the UK. That was an awesome show.

Missed Slipknot at Download the same year. They were apparently awesome too. But was there the day before and saw Black Sabbath instead.

Tony Iommi played an insane solo that at a guess was about 20 mins long. Slash played earlier in the day with Velvet Revolver (pretty crap apart from the Slash novelty), but Iommi put him to shame:Punk:
