Hi All

Have a 89 gsxr which i got as a non runner.

Anyhow shes running but wont rev above 6000, in fact full throttle struggles and rough.

The carbs are not the standard ones as the airbox was removed and replaced with pod filters , due to the airbox not being available anymore.

I attach a pic of how it came . I dont think the top two are supposed to be routed together and what are the bottom two for as there is a fuel hose in the middle (unless thats also incorrect)

The carbs ive removed and cleaned and now it idles much better, im sure the hose routing is the issue as on taking the pods off and reving it, the slides dont operate. The diaphrams etc are fine as checked them when cleaning.

thanks guys, this is really starting to frustrate, me

Hi All

Boy you are doing it hard.

So you have non std carbs & no airbox & you're wondering why it doesn't run right? Generally, assuming that, well who knows what the carbs are off, but generally taking the airbox off a bike with CV carbs is a hugely unhappy experience. Often they require serious re-jetting to get them so they will run okish, but with a huge hole in the midrange.

Do you want to be buying 4 jets at a time & trial & error? The answer is of course no. It can waste large amounts of money & time.

All I can offer is try as many wreckers as you can for the original carbs & airbox & pay whatever they ask. You will save money & time & probably the will to live. Good luck.

[edit] oh gawsh, you're in Cyprus. That will make parts an issue. Ebay or Yahoo in countries that had the 250 & hope the seller will send them.

thanks man, well i love a challenge :))

To be fair i got it for next to nothing to learn some of the more complicated stuff on that i didnt want to do on my main bike (which bloody customs have got at the moment)

So if i get it to run in some way or other ill be happy :)

thanks tho.
