View Full Version : Which road do you own?

I ride State Highway 31/39 from Otorohanga to Hamilton 3-4 times per week, I know the road pretty well and hardly see another rider on my regular rides.
I therefore lay claim to this road as mine.
Not only is it my most regular road but also the part from Otorohanga to Pirongia is one of my favourite rides. I actually like the higher speed corners over my other local which is the back road from Otorohanga to Te Awamutu via Ouruwhero - Pokuru roads. I could claim both but my favourite is that section of Highway 31.
If you also like this section of road (doesn't have to be your favourite just one you agree is a nice ride) and accept I am its most regular rider then green bling for me. If you to think you also have rights to it then red bling me (have to put in a reason) :Playnice:
Then - post the road you consider your local and that you think you can lay claim to (google map if you can). People can bling you green to acknowledge its a nice road and that yes you do indeed own it or red bling and try and make claim to it themselves. :Playnice: :2thumbsup
This is not a pissing contest on who rides it the fastest, rather who rides that section of road the most.

I commute this road twice a day - I obviously pleased the gods once.
There are 157 corners between Grays Rd in the south and the stop sign on SH1 at Paekakariki, a journey of 11.1km's. That's
- 14.1 corners per km, or
- a corner every 70.7 meters
... it's just a barrell of fun and does gangbusters for your riding. I am past trying to do it at light-speed and now work on holding a constant speed (80kmh) for the whole road. That's not quite possible as there's one 25 and one 35kmh corner but man it focuses the mind and hones your techo skills.

From here to the Four Square, do it every day, I swear I could do it at night with a tinted visor. Only one corner to watch out for, by the Fire Station, can get ya if ya carefull...:sweatdrop

Cody Wyoming to Red Lodge Montana, via the Chief Joseph Highway (Route 296) and the Beartooth Highway (Route 212). Just a whisker under 11,000 feet above sea level at the summit. Grizzly Bear country. Allegedly the best motorcycle road in the USA. I don't disagree. How many times have you ridden around the top of a quad chairlift -- on a sealed road?

Have a look at this, you'll see it's appeal even though none of you will know it. All the loops link together and the traffic is light. I tried to include it on all my excursions and every bike I test rode went through there for, ahem, assessment.
It's known as the clover leaf and I reckon I rode it more than enyone else, so I guess I own it.

Rode that one this morning for the first time......GREAT view from up on the ridge - good enough to keep me slow to have a good look. Really enjoyed the road - much better than the main road which is my usual return route...thanks for the heads-up on that one.
Heard a bike go past my house earlier today. Was a loud one.
