i like the v-twin, but have also had a 91zx2r which i enjoyed :)
about the 7-8 thou mark i rekon.
ps, atm im thinkin of getin a 04 sv naked, and streetfightering the front light.

Do you really need a larger bike?

Pretty much anything bigger around those Piha twisties will only be slower than the VTR! :)

Edit: However if you are keen for a upgrade, the SV, CBR and ER6n are all excellent bikes - make sure you test ride them all before making up your mind!

My only thought for you is if you do it now you have all summer to enjoy on a new bike.

yeah ur right, the vtr is so much fun on the p road, just want something more when i get to the longer corners/straights. has n e 1 done a defensive? will it actually improve my riding or is it just another money making scam?

The course is useless. Only good for wasting a couple of hours of your life, and knocking six months off your restricted waiting time.

Do the DDC so you can more warm weather riding. Why wait? Its worth it. I did the DDC and we had a fun group with a decent instructor who also liked a few laughs. BTW you will probably learn something that will keep you from crashing!

Go for the SV650. ER6N would be a second choice.

Gsxf650 ftw.

That has got to be the ugliest bike made by a major manufacturer on the market at the moment.

I did a similar journey from a VTR. Stayed with the V Twins, to a SV650 and then to a 900 SS Ducati.

The 900 would have definately been too much of a jump for me personally. Had the SV for long enough to beable to feel comfortable with the extra weight and power.

SV in my mind is a great step up, has a enough power to keep you thrilled and may have kept it but for the fact it was carbed and wanted injection.

It is surely wiser to take the incriments to a bigger bike in steps, gaining confidence and experience along the way. MTCW

Trademe search $5 -$10,000

There is heaps available in your price range from all makers - a few Ducatis at prices lower than I expected.

SERIOUSLY consider this – a good step from the VTR, extremely late model, very low kms and a nice all-rounder. Ignore all the knobs who will tell you its old tech and needs $2k of suspension mods - rubbish - sure they are not a GSXR750 but they are half the price and they are sweet capable bikes. And no its not mine!

Or look out for a nice 900 Hornet

I think I just threw up on my keyboard. But the Hornet's not a bad bike and can be a lot of fun.
