MOBILE SPEED CAMERA

Twice in the last week I have seen a 2003 Red Mitsubishi L300 van, reg No BCH 769, parked alongside the highway in the Waikato/Bay of Plenty area.......BEWARE! It is full of speed cameras.....which look out the back window......:Police:
First seen on Monday 27th Oct on SH 29, east of the Kaimai summit facing west bound traffic. Seen again today, 30th Oct, on SH 1 just north of Tokoroa, facing north bound traffic. Both times it has been parked WELL off the road in a gateway or against a fence, looking for all the world like some workman's van. Both times it has been well out of view of the oncoming traffic - today it was obscured by a hill - by the time you see it it would have you in its sights....:ar15:
Both times it has been unattended as far as I could see - unless someone is lying down in back of something....
Very cunning piece of revenue collection if you ask me.......:bash:

You should stop to see if it is unattended next time you pass it. If It isn't, maybe leave a little surprise on the door handle for them?:msn-wink:

looking for all the world like some workman's van.:nono: uh uh. Always look way ahead and question the purpose of ANY vehicle parked on the side of the road. If there is no clear reason why it should be there, then get the picks out pronto. After a while you can smell them. :niceone:

Jamming kits are about $1,500, I considered installing one but it's a lot of money when I have only had one ticket in the last 10 years ($120).
I suppose it just makes sense to stick close to the speed limit for your own safety anyway

First time I have seen this particular one - and twice within three days...bugger must be stalking me....

Purpose of the post is merely to inform what this one looks like......plus the rego......but if you are close enough to read that it's too late to slow down.....

Today I slowed way down to have a good look but didn't have time to get out and really explore......was paying someone by the millisecond to mind my store while I was away.....

Its FULL of speed cameras? like 6 of them? Do they give you six tickets at once?

Or perhaps its a van with only 1 (singular) speed camera in it.

It's a big mother of a camera - plus various other bits on it - not like the usual ones I have seen locally......so yes, the van does look FULL.....but prolly only the one actual camera....hyperbole you know.....

Are there any fuckers actually manning these vans whilst they snapping people?

Keep a watch out for Silver Grey Holdens in the Greater Wellington area too. There is at least 2 of them :Police:

White and Blue vans on the Napier-Taupo road. Red vans around Taranaki. And some funky white Holdens with telecom logos on them all over the place. But wait there's more....

Help they're all out to get me.

The only place I have stuck my head up was between two second rowers and it was not a pleasant experience.

The red one's not that old, it replaced a green one that was involved in an accident or 3 and finally got too expensive to repair...

It stands out a bit more than the green one did when against trees and bush, a small mercy perhaps.

Which might explain why it is so very carefully parked behind a hill.......?

actually it really depends what the speed camera operater is doing in the van as to how it smells...i think it would smell MUSKY.. and you would probably find a stack of penthouses under the seat:msn-wink:

I was on a ride a couple of years ago to Paerora, the sacred yearly pilgramage to M@cca (aka the street races). Van parked on side of road. Bikers riding past heading in the same direction, scant regard for speed, making the camera flash after flash; snaps of the front of their bikes.

I ride past, similar fashion; as I ride past, guy on a TLS rides past me with the front wheel 3 feet in the air.

The dilemma is this:
I wanted the action shot of us both riding past, one with the front wheel in the air, the other flipping the international peace sign. But, in order to order it, I would have needed to admit I was one of the bikes. You see the dilemma??? LOL!

I mean, it was a friend of mine, on a bike like mine, who got overtaken by a wheelstanding hoon. Bloody disgrace, bloody bikers. (Did that sound convincing Ginga Cop?_ :chase:

Haha! maybe! Lol I should think they'd most definately be lying low in that piece of hatred- There'd be hundreds driving past wanting to tear their balls off! Fuckers!

I've seen one once and couldn't see any fuckers manning it either. Probably for their own safety then... :2guns:

any biker ever nailed by one of these van things needs a new hobby ... cause they havent got enough available neurons for riding a bike out there... maybe ceramics.....

If you need to worry about them, then you ride too fast.
They are only there for those who flout the law like I do.
Ahhh, the speed issue yet again .
If ya dont speed ya don't get a photo!
Anyway, carry on, law abiding citizens!

Golf would be quite apropriate. The only game where white people get to dress up in public like black pimps.

what or how they would revenue collect if everyone stuck to the speed limit.
Shore they would come up with something, but the govt depends on x amount of dollars how much would they lose daily?

Just a thought i wanted to share.

Ever since the first time I've seen those speed camera L300 vans (and they always seem to be L300s around here) I've developed a nervous twitch everytime I see any L300 with tinted windows parked on the side of the road.

Which is annoying because I almost lost it completely and run myself off the road when my local takeaway decided to have their newly purchased L300 pulled up on the side of the road.

Dont even know why i get nervous. I'm a law abiding citizen :o

The operators sit in the back with the cameras. And the windows are so heavily tinted that you cant see em.

the reason that they use Mitsubishi vans is that they have such shit motors that crack heads so often that the sight of an L300 van on the side of the road is less likely to look out of place like a nice reliable Toyota or Nissan

how do I know this?... simple I have two of the firkin things on my lawn with cracked heads!:laugh:

this is probably a dumb question, but... if you are coming up to a speed camera (like pointing at you from the front) and it flashes you, how could it identify you when you dont have a number plate on the front of yer bike?

Matt_TG
31st October 2008, 16:33
The operator could note down your number I guess.

Those in the Birkdale Gfield area.
- Kaipatiki Road, just before the roundabout after crossing the bridge.
- If not above, the dip headed to gfield outside the shell station by the top of eskdale reserve.
- Behind shell, on top of esk reserve.

Goddamnit, we really need a sticky of where cameras are in each area!

Highly unlikely that it could. It doesn't pay to rub peoples noses in that though, halfwit politicians in Oz want bikes to be fitted with front plates again. If Andy Knackerhead and his mates hear about that we could have a problem.

In my experience, the operator may not be visible because he's been taken home for lunch by his missus. Or he may be sleeping the lunch off. He may also be browsing in a nearby shop or indulging in discourse with the yokels.

Don't get too hung up on the "flash". The locals disconnected the flash in the daytime because too many people wanted to argue. Don't ask me what they wanted to argue about, I've never been able to figure that one out.

Usually with its arsed parked to you on the way to gfield.
