Hey all,

I have been considering importing some of the Draggin Jeans line for sale in Auckland, and was wondering what some of you guys would think about the idea.

I ride to and from uni every day and know that safety on the road is important, but being a uni student I can't exactly carry around a set of leathers all day. The range carried at the various bike stores I've seen has been extremely small, with often only one style to choose from in a few sizes. From what I've seen on their website, Draggin Jeans offer quite a few more products in various colours and styles.

Any thoughts or comments on the idea? As always any help would be awesome!

Cheers
Chris

Why import them .. lots of the shops in Auckland sell them don't they ... as they do in Wellington.

Draggin jeans have done a great job of marketing themsleves

However there are better jeans out there for the same money that have a lot more protection built into them

Hood jeans are completely lined where as dragging jeans only have a patch on the knees and a patch on your bum

Cheaper and safer to rent a locker at uni and wear the leathers if ya ask me!

I won't say anything about when to wear them, but I can comment on how good they are.

Went for a slide in a pair on a very wet road, probably 100m on my back mostly (initial impact was on front, rolled onto back).

I have two black pairs for work... I can't tell which pair went for a slide. The back pockets even picked up a pile of stones as I slid along. Not sure how they would fair in the dry, I try not to crash :shifty:

There may be better pairs on the market, but I'm reasonably certain there are also worse pairs. The denim itself also seems to be much tougher than other options. Picked up a pair of camo for weekend use too... better than jeans if you aren't going to be naughty and not wear cordura or leather :innocent:

Yeah...motomail have them, including cheap(er) pairs in their outlet store downstairs...or they did last time I dropped in.

:stupid: at the risk of sounding really stoopid. Does anyone know if there is such a thing as "Draggin Dress Pants"? Some work places (ie mine) can't really do jeans Mon to Fri.

I got myself a pair of Draggin jeans a couple of weeks back (direct from australia) but got the wrong size. I ordered the correct size and am selling the original pair on Trademe dirt cheap.. so if you're a size 34", I'm happy to sell them at $269 (rrp is 329 in nz).

On trademe at the moment here - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=185401883

Well,i bought a pair of Draggin in Gore last Wednesday at the Suzuki dealer.
I paid only $ 245 . For a black Jeans.
Not to much for a little more saver bump.

The denim on mine is shite. Has a few holes appearing out of nowhere. Probably the style of jean but I have read that there seems to be a difference in quality between different types.

Anyone tried these ??

Looking over the feedback on TM for them, everyone who has bought them is really happy with them ..... but that's probably before sliding down the road in them .... and that's what really matters! Price is bloody good though ... if they are ok.

Hell yeah, check out what there fit is like, if you are looking at importing stuff suitable for women too, check out my Thread on Big Ass Vs Small Pants, there is heaps of info on there from people about the problems they have had and what they are looking for. Hope that helps.

I read in the latest Old Bike mag that Draggin Jeans are twice as good as the competition (they quoted scientific research). Apparently not all kevlar is the same. I haven't tested mine on the road yet (touch wood), but the denim has worn heaps better than Levis.

you can get scientific research to prove anything - it juts depends on how you conduct the test

Can anyone tell me whether there are any Auckland shops stocking the ladies Minx jeans? http://www.dragginjeans.com.au/products/jeans/minx.htm

I think the standard caveat of ringing around is best, as even if someone stocks it, do they have the size you need, and their speeds vary in how quickly they will receive stock (although, if oz has stock, it should be a day or two).

I know Mt Eden, Red Baron and Motomail carry the brand.

I know Motomail carry Draggins, I'll be over there later today anyway but I was wondering if anyone knew if anyone specificly carries the Minx style - the other styles didn't work for me:angry: hence the only Draggins I own are a pair of the mens camo pants.

Tehehe I do know a couple of boys (no I won't name names) who find the womens styles to be a better fit:crazy:

I've found that some Icon jeans (the Superduty cargos) are extraordinarily sturdy- far more substantial than Draggin and less than haf the price. I've also been impressed with the Hein Gericke Speedy Jeans. Like the Icons, far more sturdy than the Draggins and I think paid somefing like NZ$70 landed from the US. I won't go near new Draggins for the price.

oh, also, I think some of the models of draggins are made better than others. Two pairs of black ones I wear all week for work seem to be much thicker and tougher than a pair of urban camos I have.

I've owned 2 pairs, they are good but I don't feel "safe" in them, as they have no impact armour. Kevlar, yes, but nothing will replace actual armour.
I tend to use mine for around town when I dont' want to cook in my armoured gear, but if I'm doing any scratching on winding roads, on goes the good gear.
I know a couple of guys who have come off in their Draggin's, and have still ended up with garked up knees and heat abrasions, the Kevlar will protect you to a degree but not from the initial solid impact as you hit the deck!
Your skin, you choose, but at the end of the day, jeans are jeans.

Understand your feeling towards the jeans. I now wear my Draggin with a pair of 661 knee and shin protectors underneath and feel safe as. Draggin do offer knee guards that valcrove to your jean but they just look like hardened plastic which would leave you sweating. The 661's don't make me sweat (wore them for 6 hous on sat in Christchurch heat) and are lined with two valcrove straps. there maybe better ones i just didn't find any in 3 stores.

PS I rode tested some of quasi jeans with the 661's and a farm truck tried to turn me into a hood orniment. The bike was a write off i had a tear in the jean, Kevlar held and the plastic 661's had two nasty groves in the hardened plastic. I walked to the ambo (ok torn supraspinartus tendon in the shoulder but everyone does that tendon in). I'm still wearing the same guards.
