Maybe looking at a 97 750 SRAD on trademe. Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for on a bike of this age. It's got about 44k on the clock, micron slip-on and a k 'n' n filter and has been un-used for about 8 months. I'm sure that lots of you have owned these classic bikes before so any heads up would be great.

I've got a 97 GSX-R 600. It's an awesome bike. One thing to keep an eye out would be the cam chain tensioner. Ask if it's been done, and if it has, ask for proof. I went all the way to hamilton to buy one once, and the prick that was selling it neglected to mention that the cam chain on the bike was so shot it could have jumped off at any time.

The tensioners are a problem area on GSXRs of this era. You can tell if yours is shagged by sitting the bike till it gets warm, then giving it a quick rev to 5-6000RPM, then just snapping the throttle shut. Rattling at this point usually indicates a rooted tensioner.

SRAD - 96/97 carbed. 98/99 injected. Some other differences too. Like swing arm length etc.
Mine's a 99 - goes like hell (more than I need).
Gixxer4Eva has one identical, which he got to replace his 96. That'd done 85,000+ on the road AND that was after serving as Craig Sherriff's 96/97 race bike.
