"The Illusion of Progress"

Not been a fan of all they done. But there was glimpses of brilliance. Chapter V comes to mind. (obviously my opinion). This latest offering has after a week of listening grown on me. Not something you listen to if you need a lift. Some really depressing lyrics. Or perhaps thought provoking?

They have added "Its been awhile" and "Schizophrenic Conversations" as acoustic live versions (both from earlier albums). As that makes 15 songs I don't have a problem with that. And really, for someone first time listening to Staind, to have two of their best on here, it is a bonus.

But back to the new stuff. Much again relies on the lyrics. In my opinion not as grabbing as in the past. But does not dissappoint. Staind has a way of getting a melancholic feel in to their music. Like looking from a lonely perspective on life. Not wanting any help, accepting where you are. "I sit alone and watch the clock..." "I am one step from breakdown, two steps from being saved..." "And there is the star I used to wish on..." "Here I am still tangled up in you..." (My favorite part of Staind lyrics is "..falling is easy, i'ts getting back up that becomes the problem" from "Falling" on Chatper V)

I still wait for the album where they allow the guitars to take a front stage. The little we hear here (and in past albums) promise so much!

First time you listen to this album be alone, have a beer or two and full volume. (Then again, that is how I like all my albums...)

I give it 3 1/2 of 5.

Oh mean I didn't realise they had a new album.
My favourite song of theirs is Mudshovel, can't get enough of that song.
