View Full Version : This could get addictive

Having replayed session four on my inner movies screen, God knows how many times, I realise I seriously want to do it again X ? :--))

Do any of you fine Ge'mun or Ladies know where a pre-addict can get a list of all events on offer over say, the next six months, to thus become a complete addict to high-speed rotation?

I've just had a squiz at KiwiTrackDays, which looks much like the MotoTT formula. No prob there, just more opportunities, although they assert, on their site, that you get 6 hours on the track each day!...Not sure I could stay excited for 6 hours. Seems more like an endurance event. But hey? What do I know? Which is why I'm asking.

Anyone been to one of their 'days'?

Also, frosty was rabbiting on about a 'Cemetery' race in Wanganui on Boxing Day, and some street race at Paeroa. Anyone know about those or other venue for such casual racing?

Wangas and paeroa are pretty serious races, not like a local bucket race meet.

Track day organisers I know about are MotoTT, KiwiTrackDays and Honda Riders Club http://www.hondaridersclub.co.nz/ (they let owners of other makes participate). The 6 hours track time on the KiwiTrackDays website is a bit misleading, they must be referring to the total track time on a day for all groups. You get a similar number and length of sessions as at MotoTT days.
There's also the suzuki owners days listed in the track days forum.

The Taupo racetrack website lists the upcoming events also:
http://www.tauporacetrack.co.nz/index.php

When the Hampton Downs track is finished, there should be more trackdays there too: http://www.hamptondowns.com/ :Punk:

Katman, I cannot but help think that you were born in the wrong century. I'm almost sure you would have been much happier living in the 13th Century and working as an inquisitor, 'helping' heretics to confess.

Or in the 14th Century, sitting along-side Vlad The Impaler as advisor on whom should be next to get a pole up the bottom. Or maybe even the 20th Century, working as a Capo in Auschwitz or Buchenwald deciding on whom should be next for the gas.

I can imagine you acting, happily, as head waiter at a wine-and-anthrax party hosted by Lucrezia Borgia.

Or for Henry the Fifth. 'Righto Katman, how many Catholics have we got to burn today?!'

'Oh. Only 500 today, My Lord; all of whom have been proven, to my satisfaction, to have spilled their seed on the ground.'

'Well done! Thank you, Katman. Can't allow wankers to live, can we?'

Katman. You are, arguable, the most parsimonious, pedantic, prosaic, and mean-spirited prat I have ever encountered, and God knows I have met a few.

And so, unless you have some useful information to submit, regarding my request for data on various track or 'casual' race events, why don't you toddle off back to pulling the wings off flies, or whatever it is you do in privacy.

There are also the less publisised track days run by the different clubs.
Amcc were doing them the day before or after a race meeeting. Vmcc run track days.
Theres also the open track days at Ruapuna which seem to come around fortnightly oon a wendsday (correct me if I'm wrong)
I'd reccomend staying away from the Pukie open days for a lil while -Its a scarey place to fuck up at

Dpex -reading here It "looks" like what you are implying is that YOU will rock on up to whanganui on your "R6" and have a play out on the track.
They are one day RACE meetings so you would be watching them

I think all those who race in the street series would agree that it is not a place for someone wanting some "casual racing".

WTF are you going on about?

Cemetery Circuit (Wanganui) and Paeroa are long term fixtures on the NZ racing scene. You can't seriously tell me you've never heard of the Boxing Day races at Wanagnui?

They're NOT casual race meetings. Full on race meetings with street related championships like the Robert Holden Trophy.

Bet you anything you come back and go "Robert Who?".

If you shut up and listen you might learn something.

By 'casual' I mean, race meets where a bloke can turn up with little more than his bike, his arse-wiping materials, and a wish to compete a bit.

'Not' casual means, 'serious race meetings which attract serious riders, as opposed to events where wannabes like me who just want to sniff up the fumes, get to be a part of the fun'.

I don't mind coming last and then some, or even pitting for some other. I just wanna be a part of this fabulous, go-fast-on-bikes, scene.

But I must say I wouldn't mind being in a race or ten. :--))

well then --your best bet is to have a chat to PMCC they run a summer series--3 rounds -two at the very track you've just ridden and one at the minefeild.
You'd have a ball in clubmans but your bike needs a "bit" of work to get it RACE legal. --thats a whole different thing from road legal or trackday legal.

Being a pit bitch for someone, entirely different to being on track.

From a marshall's perspective, I can tell you the thing we hate the most (and not trying to be nasty) is a "racer" who is noticeably slower than the rest of the field. Generally they react wrong when being lapped, and the speed differential can present safety problems (I think about it a lot more after last season at pukie)

mate as long as the club sticks by the 115% rule the difference should be not a lot.
If you are refering to the horrible accident at the pukie nats then it was a machine fault of some sort-and that could happen to a front runner as easily as a backmarker.

I do believe you need a X (6 i think?) amount of race meetings to compete in the Street races or nationals.

VMCC winter series, is the best place for you to have a go in clubmans. However thats ages away.
Pacific Summer Series, what is coming up should be a great place for you too get some races under your belt :).

Of course there is the 115% rule, to aviod people getting lapped millions of times. The pace is quite a bit faster from a fast group trackday too a race day, even in clubmans.

With the back straight, bit of a bastard for blue flagging... main thing is the speed differentials between the front runners and back markers.

Hardest part of marshalling is attempting to blue flag the middle of packs from each other. Pretty easy for front and rear, harder as it gets into the middle

Way hey hey!

You can't get into the street racing (Wangas and Pie Rower) without, I think, three club-level race meets completed beforehand. And I'm not sure whether Clubmans counts for those. And, let's face it, those street circuits are a bit fuckin scary and dangerous and are no place to start one's racing career as a newcomer.

What you're after, dpex, is Clubmans racing. If you want to do it at the Taupo track over this coming summer, Pacific Motorcycle Club (http://pacclub.co.nz/press) are the guys to call.

I was hanging out by the fence and watching you ride in Group 3 yesterday, by the way - didn't get a chance to come up and chat in pit lane, but I did note that you were going well, looking smooth and relaxed.

I'd advise you to chill and stick to trackdays for the moment, though, do as many over summer as you can, and then if you're super keen to step up and race, and your lap times are realistically competitive, enter the Clubmans class in the 2009 Winter Series.
