Problem now solved. Took the power direct from battery, and not fuse box, and problem disappeared. Strange but true!

Problem now solved. Took the power direct from battery, and not fuse box, and problem disappeared. Strange but true! The small amount of resistance in the wiring from the fuse panel to the battery allows quite large noise levels to be present from the alternator and ignition and other noise makers. Taking the wiring direct allows the battery to damp the noise well down, and the noise to be burned up as heat in the wiring. Usually.

But after taking a wire direct from the battery do you guys chuck a fuse in it?

I'm getting a detector (for car, but would use on bike too), and am looking at how I would wire it in.

I just got a Bel XR STI, got the hardwire kit.

Was about to wire it up, but if you guys just take power from the battery do you just unplug and plug in the radar when ever you want to use it?

Will this do any damage to the unit? I just spent a hefty amount of money on it so I don't want to wreck it...

My cars' have hard wire to acc so turns on and off with the car,can remove anytime, put a fuse inline for safety.

I'm hard wiring mine to the battery and putting a relay into the lights.

If your wiring direct to the battery whats the point of having a relay for the headlights? (I thought they would have relays for them anyway?)

Also do you guys just use the suction cups to fit them to the windscreen?
I'm paranoid of it falling off and am thinking of making up a little bracket to hold it...

I had my V1 under the cowling held on with Velcro. It was very snug and secure. A bracket couldn't hurt for added reassurance.
I have a passport 8500 I am going to install soon on the new bike.

hell no... I use Techmount stands or Ram Solutions, wouldn't trust suction cups.

Bracket would work fine as well

Just had a look at both techmounts and ram mounts, how does the detector attach the mount, they all have flat bottoms, am i supposed to velcro it down or fab up a little bracket?

It depends what you go with.

With the techmount, it was a stem stand, had 3m dual lock on the top (better than velcro) and the detector was inside the plastic case, with dual lock on the bottom of it.

With the Ram Solutions set up I now have (different bike) I have the magnetic plate, with the corresponding metal plate. The metal plate dual locks to the plastic case, and the whole thing stays on via magnet. Doesn't go anywhere, 1600km trips, wheelies etc...

Yeah I'm looking toward the ram solution way right now.

Would magnets mess with the radio waves?

How did you find the STI performed as far as detection warning times .... compared to the V1 ?
I know that the STI is undetectable by the HP. Is the V1 the same ?
