...or do we create some sort of penis envy rage in the boy racers?

Ever since I've jumped on the ZX6 I keep having guys in overdone cages try to race me on the daily commute. I commute on the bike at the same speed I do in the car, but only encounter it on the bike, and only since I moved up from the Hyobang.

Just today, I had a guy try to shut me out on an On-ramp as the lanes merged, and then another on the motorway who I just sat next to as he thrashed his pos trying to outrun me. In the end I actually backed off when I looked down to see how fast we were going...

For the most part I find it funny, apart from when they nearly take me (or another vehicle) out swerving lanes.

its good if you are at the lights with them in the next lane, make out that you are going to drag race them, let them race their cage of the lights, and just ease off the line, this is good if you know there is a muffti cop a few cars back, but yes boy racer in a cage does = small penis.

+1 on what he said.

Dont give into it Matt. This is one of the dark paths that leads to the forest of lost licences :oi-grr:

Haha, yes as per our ride on Saturday you no doubt realize it's one of my weaknesses :innocent:

I don't usually blat off infront of them, I just like sitting next to them looking in the window as to say "wtf are you trying to prove?" :Punk:

Sure do create some kind of envy... I notice it a lot too... I've had lame-ass boyracers (oncoming) swerve at me, seemingly trying to scare me or get a reaction.

Just as sure as the Sun will rise, there will be 17yo kids in Carolla's with flat brim caps, mag wheels (@ $15pw for the next three years) strapped with tubes of Clearasil and 50 Cent playing, hating on bikers for no apparent reason.

Also find middle aged men in (big) Holdens/Fords try to tempt you...

Riding a sports kind of encourages people also I guess...

Car people tend to act a lot more macho because as long as they have a bigger faster car then their mates they think they're hot shit and they only have to plant their right foot and turn a steering wheel to prove it. Where as in bikes you don't get this illusion of superiority to anyone with a smaller bike than you due the need for balls and skills to wind a bike open around some corners. There are a bunch of emos around here that got cars and all of a sudden started walking around like they are big men. These are the same ones that say they will ram you "on your gay ass little bike" (says the kid in a nissan pulsar) of the road if you race them. You know the type?

They all want to race because they know it's a challenge. Thing is if you look for it you'll find a lot of opportunities to either lose your license (as Toto rightly points out) or end up hurt.

I just think of them as unworthy opponents. Not really fair for them when we can accelerate so quick. Must admit every now and again the mood takes me but it's all about considering the time and place (like all bike related shenanigans).

not just guys, had a silly bitch cut me off on an on ramp, nearly side swiped me in the process coming up the outside of me. thing was the silly cow ended up going into uni as well. was all I could do not to follow and show her the results of her actions with a liverpool kiss (me with helmet on).

I avoid the pricks at all costs. A bike's too vulnerable if they start playing silly buggers. It's just not worth it <_<

Its weird... the zx10 I used to have seemed to be a boy racer magnet... they always wanted a go... come on, around 70kph I actually had traction, and I had already beaten them (they would stand a better shot with the hornet). The hornet doesn't seem to get much in the way of attention, which is rather nice.

New bike is completely under the radar, no-one looks at it as any threat, which is rather nice  So it completely depends on what bike it is, what it looks like, how it sounds etc.

Best attempt I ever had by a cage was an AMG Merc. CL65 AMG from memory. Sure, its comfortably into six figures, but that thing had serious power. Beginning was around a curve, so terrible trying to power to the ground with only one wheel... but beat him in the end... I think his governor also lost him the race

I agree that's absolutely shocking! That bike could run circles around it on bends... and a lot of other cars.

Yea that's for sure, my Physio who's also a biker brought the subject up last week as he was on a loaner 600 and had it happen a few times.... But never once when he's on the ZX12 :devil2:

There are some funny misconceptions out there. I suppose it's just because most drivers are utter shit. Hardly anyone would have met a capable driver with a decent car. An AMG is not your ordinary run-of-the-mill wobbly Mercedes. Of course the AMG would loose to a zx10r in a straight line (unless it's a very long straight line and the limiter has been removed, it does about 320 km/h) - in the real world on bumpy dirty roads, going around corners I'd wager it would be faster. Sure the bike will pick up speed quicker after the corner, but the AMG will be able to carry more through the corner. At the end of the day it's about who's got the bigger balls - and you get a lot more speed in a car for the same volume of balls compared to on a bike.

A very wise co worker once suggested me a really good way to wind a boy racer up is, when you are next to one waiting at the lights, point to their monster tach nailed on their dashboard and ask them "what time is it?", "you have a large clock on your dashboard, what time is it?"

Mikkel points out some good facts... and have you played against an AMG?

Going around the bend, he had the inside line, my rear kept spinning up, and as we finished the corner, he couldn't stay within his lane, so out of concern for my own safety, I backed off as he drifted into my lane (I like breathing). Oh, and remember, this corner, we would have been doing over... ummm... any open road speed limit.

Once he recovered, I caught up, passed, and carried on, but it was by no means a walkaway for me.

edit: oh, remember, the zx10 was an 04, very different kettle of fish compared to say, an 06. 06 is a lot more tame in comparison.

Coming from a motorsport back ground (cars) I agree.

I regularly go from Hill Park onramp, all the way to the end of the North Western M/Way and even on an unassuming ER6F with panniers and a top box I still get people 'pacing' me in the other lanes. I just give them a hearty wave and slow down!

There is one absolute idiot in some white station wagon, on the back it reads something like "BLONDE BUT NOT STUPID", I see her about 80% of the time I am heading that way.. she's in and out of lanes, boosting it up.. I don't know if she's trying to prove something to someone or is just always genuinly late. But apparently going 120 in the fast lane is too slow for her.

I've also done the rev high at the lights and putter off nana styles while the idiots take off down the street. There is some sweet satisfaction in that for some reason.
