So giving the girl a wee polish on Sunday and notice theres a bit of a scratch on the tank. Bugger.. jacket buckle no doubt. Then I was in a bike shop shortly thereafter and saw a cruiser with a 'tank bib' on it... like the photo below.

Has anyone else used one of these and if so where did you get it from? and anyone know if there is a supplier in Auckland that makes these or even in NZ for that fact.

Yes I know I can stick clear polish on the tank. I don't want to. I like the idea of being able to stick my cell phone/map in a pocket on a tank bib.. Would prefer one without the stud looking things though.

They look (with their S&M studdy things) like they'd be worse for the tank than nothing.
What's worngA with your normal stick-on plastic tank protector?
Those won't be weatherproof! The leather will crap out, and the S&M studs will rust or at least tarnish.

cruisers are easy for these to go under since many have the speedo on tank for them to hold on to one end

the other problem with them is over time, the tank will fade around the bib
so when you take it off tank is not all one colour.

Father in law has made tons of these over the years.

we have made these type of tank bras for bikes before also

So does ones father is law still make them? Or am I going to have to fashion one myself and get the blasted leather needles out of storage and scare my sewing machine?

here = tauranga

how much unsure really depends on size of tank, and what you extacly want.

Surely it's not that hard to sort this. I'm sure even if you can't get to Roundabouta that you can sort out with Cajun what you want and his dad-in-law can get the measurements from another bike like yours closer to his workshop.

maybe.. but I had thought that there must be someone local who has them so that I could have a look at the range before I decide on what one to get.
If not then thats fine.. Just a girl shopping tis all.

Check online. Places like Directline sell ones specially fitted for specific bikes.

I'm pretty sure there is a Suzuki Directline branch. Whether they do it for a VL is another question.

Gaaaaahhh!
I've had much first-hand experience with that!
That means you'll have to visit every single bike shop in Noo Zilund, view every single available bib, then go back and try some of them out, then end up either not buying anything, or buying the first one you saw, or buying the last one and then deciding you should've bought the first one.
Gaaah!!!

Reminds me of when I went helmet shopping with the vifferbabe....
Cost me $12,399, only $399 of which was for a helmet...
Or window-shopping for a pair of stereo speakers ($6k)
Or "let's just look at one more car" ($17k)

Or how about shopping for a momento of Venice: took us about three cities' worth of shopping to finally find something made in Venice that we could've bought in the first shop we went into a few days before...

Sorry - no offense intended, Young Ms Blossom. You go Gurrlll! :niceone:
I hope you find Just The Right Thing. :niceone:

I have checked online and the only ones I have found so far are in the States and none at all for a vl250.
Bit of a lame question..but what is directline? I have never heard of them and didn't find a lot when I googled it. (but then I am having a blonde day here so be gentle)

thanks for that. interesting site.
They don't do them for the vl250 so the search continues.

Meanwhile the sewing machine starts calling from the cupboard under the stairs....

and don't worry vifferman.. no offence taken..although I must admit.. I am neither young anymore (37) nor a miss... am definately a mrs..
Mate...you have expensive shopping trips. Perhaps you should just take cash and leave your wallet at home... :dodge:
