This goes for any decent naked bike....
I'm thinking about going from my R1 to a z1000 and just wondered what people have experienced in terms of corner speed? I have owned a bandit before, so I know these are all very different bikes, but that's what I want, something different...
So what's the deal? Can you get 'knee down' lean angles on the z1000??

Absolutely correct. One could get one's knee down on a Harley Fat Boy, if one was so inclined.

I'm not a knee down rider but found my 04 Z1000 better than my 00 ZX6R.

You don't need your knee down to get big lean angles.
You don't need lean knees to get big angels.
You don't need to kneel to get angels.
Angels don't need knees.
Big angels lean.
Big knees need your angles.

Isn't this statement a contradiction?

I agree, any bike is able to achieve knee down lean angles, all depends how much you want to get off the bike.
so if you can get your knee down on the R1 without gettin off the bike much, then i am guessin the z will probably be scraping somethin at the same lean?
but the real question is, did you get knee down lean angles on the R1?
the z probably wont handle the same lean angle

I am inclined to think that this would require one to incline the bike to a greater extent than that for which it was designed.

Not at all. Most "amateurs" get their knees down by hanging way off their bikes. In the case of a Fat Boy (the bike, that is), a knee-dragging rider would just have to hang out a little bit further than most squids do on a sprotsbike. And don't underestimate the cornering abilities of a Harley in the hands of a half-decent pilot.

Unfortunately not.
It's Farkin Tuesday (the worst day of the week, unless you're on holiday) and I'm really bored...
Tuesday is a crap day for KiwiBiker, moreso since it got crappier than it used to was....

I've scrapped the pegs on a z7fiddy so i'm sure the thou will lean over ok.
Just need to keep in mind that the suspension aint as good as a sports bike.
and I'm really bored...
Well get a wig then.

Thanks scorry - 1 decent post to my question!
I ride my R1 at reasonable speed on the track, yes I like to drag my knee through some corners, no I don't hang off the bike like an idiot just to get my knee down
I just wanted to know if I could get similar corner speed and angle on something like a z1000.... or if I'll be dragging pegs and generally anoying me!

you should take one for a test ride mate, best way to find out i spose cos it could depend on the suspension set ups and riders abilities if you go off someone elses word

Sorry my answer didn't answer the question you didn't ask. Yes the Z1000 has good ground clearance. I don't think it's as good as the R1 but then only a Sportbike would be. As the Z1000 is naked sports it's got a more comfortable riding position which generally means the pegs are lower. In this case not by much.

you will be dragging pegs easy on the track as they are (relative to sports bikes) low. Also suspention will be running further through their stroke as they are (again relatively) softly sprung, reducing ground clearance at speed when the suspension loads up.
You will peg out on the track. On the road you will be sweet (may touch done occasionly tho).

Done it many times with out even trying... doesn't bother me whether I do or don't... makes no difference getting round the corner...
The only time I worry about is when I don't have any sliders, done that once and it hurt like fuck, (I decided not to do that again)... and with the sliders its easier to do as your not putting the knee over as far before it hits the sliders

You must be one of those tall mofo's then.... Dangly bits everywhere...
I'm a short-arse. Never get my knee down on the road but do okay at the track...

I can on my Honda Hornet (which is a similar bike) and not even blessed with Upside Down Forks. which would make all the difference.
I am shortarse, too.

I had my heart set on a beautiful 03 Z1000, sat on it and it fit like a glove, rode it down the street and hated it.
Handlebars wanted to pull out of your hands and go to full lock at any corner at normal round town riding.
It could have been that particular bike, could have been tyre pressure, could have been any number of things - but I was turned right off. Couldn't be bothered trying to find another to ride.
In the end I bought an R1

What he said. We've got an '03 and a '04 in the family and neither have ever given any probs.

Still?
You must really like them...
On a side note, tyres do change the bikes...
A lot of people like running 190/55's on them.... That said, a lot of people went for 180/55's for the same reason.
The 50 rear profile didn't do the bike many favours for a lot of people...

Yep. Ridden a few bikes now looking for something to replace mine with but have only found a couple that rung all the right bells, the B King was one and more recently the Street Triple. I don't think the wife will part with hers so I reackon we will always have one in the shed.
Your right about the tyres. That big rear is more about looks than handling I suspect.
