So i've got this dilema where I want to have a more relaxed riding position and get some weight off of my wrists.
I have a spare top clamp for my bike which i can modify to take a set of risers and bars and use to 'street fighter' or 'tourer-ize' my GSXR1000K3 at a cost of around $150.
or
I go and check out different bikes that are already setup in this way, but don't have the 'sport suspension' of my GSXR... XJR1300/SV1000 etc, sell my bike and replace it with something that is already setup?
What would you do?

What would you do?
Do you like the gsxr besides the riding position?
And will fitting bars only, completely fix the riding position for you? ie, sportsbikes have seat and pegs close together, is it a bit cramped etc.

My 2001 R1 is awesome as a streetfighter...very comfortable.
I say do it, they look great as well.

Do it.. the seating position is no hassle (take it from an old bastard) and the bar conversation will radically change the bikes feel and attitude... if you like the streetfighter/motard style riding you'll love.
Cheap way to extend you life with the bike!!!

I'd become a fit bastard that could 'andle the riding position

I regularly talk to my bike and if I twist my wrist it talks back :Punk:
If you like the GSXR than I say get the bars.

A new set of bars wont give you any better midrange power witch is what street fighters are all about when all said and done.

I remember you being quite keen on streetfighters. It's cheap enough so give it a shot making the gixxer a 'fighter. If you don't like it, then consider other bikes. Test ride a few and see if they're more your style.

Sure! Find me one for $8k NZD that's not dodgy and i'll be there with my money. I'm slightly limited in budget if i get a different bike.
Truth is i WANT an FZ1 set up the same as The Strangers. But I don't have that sort of $$$ to put in to a bike. If I did the conversation wouldn't be about whether to get an FZ1 or a Speed Triple, i'd be a matter of which I could afford.
What I do have is a GSXR1000k3 with 150hp at the wheel... midrange... LOL! Got most most of the stuff to 'fighter it, and a couple of contacts that can help with the rest.
Looks like im going to have a fun weekend tinkering and making stuff

NAh - wrong - the entire street-fighter thing started with guys crashing their early GSXR's, and similar sports bikes and removing the damaged fairings etc, and adding MX bars. Midrange power had nothing to do with it until Triumph made their own 'factory' street-fighter.

Easy! Everyone else seems to throw their gixxers down the road, and it fixes them good!

With the exception of the latest litre bikes, all the earlier ones had good midrange. Add to that, an already sorted suspension package and light weight, one can't even remotely compare the nakeds to them...
Fighter it dude... You'll miss the power and handling if you degraded to an FZ1, Speed III, Z1000 or whatever else...

My mates FZ1 is putting out the same/more power than my GSXR1000K3 is at the moment, it's more useable and it can be ridden nicely below 7k, or like a bat out of hell above 7k - and it easily handles the pace on the open road, so in all honesty there wouldn't be any 'downgrading'.
Also have a lot of respect for the Speed III in the right hands.
I just don't have the $$$ to buy either.
I'm going to be building the SF setup (bars and headlights) for my Gixxer as money allows, so should be all done and dusted in 2-3 weeks.

My response was in context to an 8K bike....
I hardly think an older std FZ, Speed III etc will match a K3 unless it's had some attention payed to it...
I don't dispute that any of the newer (more expensive) models will be more than up to the challange...
But then, I'm talking out of my ass... I've never owned one of those... Or actually ridden one, BWAHAHAHAHAHA.....
I have ridden a Z1000, S4R and Superduke and they were quite good on the road at spirited pace... So it all depends on how you ride and who you ride with really...

what do you define as latest?
My 04 zx10 was a bit of a shocker low down, even tho it had had dyno time

Well, even the 04 had a lot more midrange than the 06/07/08 by all accounts... Did it not?
And did the Gixxers not have more than the 10's?
I recently rode an 06 ZX10 and 07 Blade, there was a distinct difference between the midranges of the two bikes... Many years ago I rode a Z1000 back to back with a 06 ZX10 and the Z1000 felt absolutely flat after the 10. I have ridden an 05/06 R1 and that's just a sewing machine... Revs is what it likes. It did have shorter gearing, so didn't seem to flat though...
I concede that on paper, the older nakeds may have more low down power but when coupled to power/weight ratios, the sportbike should still have the edge, simply due to having 20kg's+ less weight...

04-05 10 was the peaky crazed animal, subsequent ones had more mid range, however, I can't remember when I last rode an 06-07 that was stock. I've ridden an indecently modified one, which walked right past me when I was doing 270 odd  One thing you cannot deny about the suzukis, they have amazing engines, with torque right from down low (as much as I hate suzuki)

Nakeds have their engine management systems re-tuned, with less up top, more down low. Apples with apples, the cb1000r I believe has crazy amounts low down, cbr1000r, not so much, but then it has more at the top end, higher red line etc.

k4? gsxr? wins how so?
Problem with all the sportsbikes, is that comparatively, they all make their power higher up. Large amounts of hp, you simply can't let it come on low down. They get looped enough as it is, with their really tall first gears.
hehehehe, poor mate was a bit pissed when his "special" 06 zx10 got beaten off the lights by a cb900
After I beat him a few times, he tried a drag launch... unfortunately, so did I, and while he scooted off, I tried to stop it 12'ing on me :sweatdrop

109817 Guys truth of the matter is that the modern sports do have torque.. its just that they rev so damn hard that we forget how much they got.. after all Torque Rev and that magic 5252 make up our BHP figures.
If you look at the graph the K7 has 60 ft/lbs at 4k and for most of the rev range has over 80!! My 1100 twin only manages a best of 75 ft/lbs and at 3500 has only 60 available.
Drop a tooth in the front and forget about "perceptions".... tune is tune

That always makes a big difference... Often it makes the bike more rideable, as opposed to less...

Be a bit of a worry dropping two teeth on the front sprocket i'd say, would make it a bit small for the chain to get around etc
