Anyone been up there? I rode from Blenheim on sunday but riding bareback (ie no can of spare gas in my backpack) I had to turn around. It looks like it goes for 30 odd km into the hills south of St Arnaud. I'm definitely going back for a gander but might trailer the bike to Lake Argyle given the DRZ's shorter range...:scooter:

Have a quizz on google maps or google earth. Go to "The Branch" which is about 25-30km E of Tophouse then follow the rd SSW into the hills, following the river up. Sign says 4WD access only a few km up the rd.

So anyone got any pics / war stories about that rd? Google imagery is very sharp and the ride looks mint.

A couple of pics of the road under my bike listing on Trademe, but like I said I only went maybe 5-8km up past the lake before hitting the point of no return...(well the point-of-hopping-off-and-pushing more correctly ).

:msn-wink:Yip, been there, done that, in the 4wd

Be a top ride I've been meaning to get around to.Goes a fair way with a few fords and a couple of huts along the way.
Wasn't to rough as far as I can remember. The valley narrows up a bit towards the last hut where the road officialy ends and turns into a walking track.
We went a bit further and it opens out again.
Branch river's another top road, but the ford to get to it has some large rocks in it.
Raglan range is another one if you want views but I not going to let on how to get there on a public forum:msn-wink:

you can go around the east side of Lake Argyle and squeeze around a gate and ride up the east side of the river bank an maybe join leatham Rd after Leatham Rd crosses the bridge?
