A mate of mine went for a trip down country on the back of his friends bike and on the way back they came past my place to visit. They'd done probably 1000km's on the main highways at quite often licence losing speeds....
But thats not all - The bike they were on had no reg/wof/ and the rider no motorcycle license.... Not only that but the chain was so loose it was almost dragging on the ground! I told them they couldn't leave until they had at least tightened up the chain and sprayed some lube on the bit of rust that connected the front and rear sprockets.. Lent them the tools to do so.

Would you ride a bike any distance in this state?? Not I.

Sounds like the guys who attended the Cold Kiwi a couple of years ago ..... They had their bike impounded and complained bitterly about it :2guns:  no reg/wof/ and the rider no motorcycle license.

No reg, wof, license I could understand as that would only cost you money if you get caught but a real loose chain that's just dangerous to your health.

Many, many moons ago a mate rode Taupo to Waiuku on a T100C (Daytona)and couldn't get up the drive at his folks farm - the chain was just slipping over the bumps on the rear sprocket,I've never seen anyone take a chain and sprocket so far.

Saw a rear sprocket off an AG200 at kaikohe motorcycles like that the farmer brought his bike in and said the clutch was slipping....

Already done that, had to replace the idler gears when i finnaly got it down here they shyte on me just before i left the states. Had fun with the yammy shop just off Te Rapa Rd here tryin to get new ones. needed a new starter clutch aswell. all in all i spent some $500nz when the shop in Dallas quoted the fixing cost just for parts at some $1400nz (i did the conversion when i got down here having the shop check prices for all that suff here) And to think i trusted that shop back in Dallas.:bash:

When I was a total noob, I finally got round to checking the state my old GN125 was in. The rear sprocket had very nice wave shaped teeth. Knew straight away that it needed fixing ASAP. Have been a lot more vigilant since, esp on the CBR.

Nope. I work hard on the old Gixxer to keep it in trim. Got to have the chain and bits good or it makes for an unpleasant ride. I have noted some people just do not get it when it comes to things mechanical. Cant even see what you are talking about. Mind you I don't get the English langue and it's stupid rules about spelling and comprehension so I assume to a literate person I am just as bad. :kick:

I'm not saying this :o :o :o :o
When I was very young younger than today an XR250 I used to ride couldn't make it over the harbour bridge for that very reason, ended up getting a fiber cog can't remember the name sorry but got heaps better mileage out of it

What's this about motorcycles with differentials?

As I understand it, a differentrial is used in a car so that the inside and outside drive wheels can rotate at different speeds as the car goes around a corner.

:spudbooge Is this a fault with xvs or just a bit of bad luck. Thanks :sweatdrop

Not really sure if its called a diferential but it changes the direstion of the drive shaft so the tire spins forward from the top instead of to the right from the top.....

marty
4th February 2005, 21:22
a differential is probablty technically correct, however the reality is that it's just a planetary gear

Arrrr no. I do both, and have never had any special training. Get the rims balanced and put the red dot to the valve and you are away. I assume you have a bead breaker etc. Get em plenty soapy so they will bead up ok. :2thumbsup

Top whack for speeding ticket (still below loss of licence level): $630, no w.o.f. $200, no reg. $200,.

The "no licence bike" I assume you mean you do not have a bike licence? If so that's another $400.

$1430 will by a lot of bubble-gum matey!! :yeah:

however much he wanted it to.

lets see: disqualy - impounded vehcile, may be confiscated by the court. 2 years prison, $$4500 fine, 6 months further loss of licence (as a a minimum). 3rd offence - $6000 fine, 5 years prison, 2 years disqual with conditions having to be met before resitting your licence.

fails to stop, $10000

no reg/wof $200 each

dangerous/reckless (reckless when you run): penalties as for disqualified.

and if a warrant is issued, you won't get police bail when you're picked up, which will probably be on a friday night after court has closed - next court day is monday :)

that's off the top of my head. can anyone think of anything else?

A couple of weeks ago I raced in a hare scramble on the WR. At the end of the race I checked my rear sprocket and every second tooth had broken off. Doubt if I would have got another lap in. Thats what I call maximising the life of a product.
