55,000kms just for fun :)
Well, time for some ramblings here.
31 years ago I sold my last motorbike to cover
a mortgage, pay for kids and generally just survive.
I managed to scratch up enough dough to buy a Kawasaki
CSR250 belt drive single for "commuting" purposes and
well, I was lucky the missus accepted that excuse :)
Would you believe I clocked 25,000kms in one year and
sold the sucker for more than I paid for it? Awesome!
Then life hit home. No bike till three years ago and
I go out and buy a K2 GSX1400. Lost my boy at the age
of sixteen from a genetic disease and still have a
daughter who just hit 25 years old this year. That loss
hit home real hard and hurts like hell twelve years after
he's gone. I try not to think about it and I'm a Kiwi
Bloke but when the subjects brought up it's still darn hard
not to go soppy and shed a tear :(
But, shit....I love riding. Please tell me where I can
get a good paying job just riding/test driving/running in/
motorbikes or exotic cars but mainly bikes....please.
I traded my K2 on a K6 GSX1400. If you've never ridden
one of these bikes than I can honestly tell, you don't know
what you are missing. They are the most under-rated value
for money bike on the market today and they are just.....
well bloody awesome!
I love the 1400. I've just clocked 55,000kms on these bikes
just for fun and loved every second of it. I've been off
road twice on the K2 involuntarily of course, but it managed
it well till I came to a dead stop.
I've been down hard on the K6 which run up $5500 in repair
bills and it bounced back fine. It runs with the sporties
when ridden hard and smooth and can cruise all day without
a sore neck if you keep it under 200kmh.
I can ride it all day long and feel fresh enough to
do it all over again. It's an awesome bike and fun to
ride.
I loved the ZX14 and was sorely tempted to buy barbenders
ZX when he was selling it for some crazy price with all the
extras but just couldn't bear to part with the GsX. This
bike has me by the short and curlies....it just does all I
want from a bike without any fuss and bother.
I'm working on another video and yep, I expect some flack
on KB as usual when it comes out (youtube user "beyondkiwi"
8 vids up now)
But, I admit....I push the envelope for this bikes design
and yes, I think often of our mortality:-
See my mortality series starting with part one:
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=39808
We are fragile little beings in the scheme of things and
man, when we hit something hard, our fleshy little bits get
hurt a lot and it isn't fun. Broken bones take a long time
to heal and in cold weather it feels like they never did.
But, man, it's so worth it. I've said over and over again
and so have others, that five minutes in "the zone" on a
nice bit of road, going for it, means you live more in five
minutes than many will in a lifetime.
There's not much more in life that can give you such a buzz
in a moment of time than riding a motorbike on your favourite
stretch of road, throwing your machine from side to side,
throttling out of the corners, hitting the warm patches
and cold zones, smelling the grass, the cowshit, the silage
and some farmers wife's cooking. We are free!
Pure and simple, we are one with our bike, the road and
our own company. Free to concentrate on taking that next
bend perfectly without any other care's of life crowding
our minds.
Shit: I love motorcyling. :) :) :) :) :)

Katman, I'm sure that deep down you are a really nice bloke. People die all the time and most of them die doing things they do not enjoy. No one wants to leave this world before their time and certainly all would like to choose their time and place. We don't have that luxury. The choice is not ours.
All we can do is enjoy those we share our lives with, our experiences, our sad times and our happy times.
When the lights finally go out, we can only be thankfull that we lived and shared our life with others and hopefully in some way enriched them. No one leaves this world without leaving something behind and no one is in control of their own destiny. I'd rather die riding my bike than screaming in agony for months from some wasting disease. I've had a melanoma cut out already and have no idea if bits have floated off to start chewing away at me somewhere else.

I see Katman is back...
Wondered where he went....
I think Katman is a TROLL. He takes every opportunity to turn any thread into a debate like this has become.
We all should read it, acknowledge the point he's trying to make, then simply continue along and not feed him...
We all have differing views on aspects of life. That's what the school of hardknocks is all about. The Big Dude in the sky would never learn anything if we all did the same thing. Life is about experience and we all go about it differently. We all make choices based on conscience. What one person considers acceptable is most certainly not for another person.
So, I respect Katman for his opinion. I would like it if he'd make his point once, then fuck off and let threads take their course...
Katman... A lot of us have spent time at accident scenes. For a lot of us, it's been trying.
The difference is, some people slow down. For others, it's a debate to give up or continue. A lot of people ride for fun and if it means riding differently, ie. slower, which means the fun goes away, then they stop riding. OR. Since it's a big part of their life, they continue on, considering the risks.

Tis the standard reaction to 'that login', who has this pathetic need to accuse and blame motorcyclists for the impeding destruction of the world as we know it. It is a sickness, he won't take his meds and Dr MT won't make him. Personally, I think his hands should be superglued to his handlebars (inside his gloves, of course...gotta think of the safety angle) - then he can get out more and talk to people in person. Thence to be delivered of a lesson that will stick (try his KB postings in the flesh and see what happens).

Shit, I'm 52 years old. You get a fairly thick hide by then I can tell you :)
Katman, more people are killed and maimed in car accidents every year around the world than were killed in World war 1 and 2. Anyone that has an accident on a motorbike, more often than not does themselves in with virtually no other casualties in the majority of cases.
To ride a bike involves risk on a higher level than other pursuits and wether we choose to ride a bike instead of extreme snowboarding, skiing, hunting, motocross ot any other activity that puts the human frame at risk matter not one iota.
Every human with an ounce of life will push the boundaries in one form or another and the age in which we lives just means that the methods we employ are faster, quicker and more exciting.
If I had to stop the way I ride for fun when I am on my own or with others than I would toss my leathers, boots and gloves into a ditch and never ride again.
I confess to having a penchant for power and speed. I can't help it and nor can untold thousands of people around the world. Mate, I love riding and it gives me a real sense of peace, at one with the earth and the cosmos.
Maybe you have never found 'the zone". It's an awesome place to be and one you just want to visit over and over again.
Their is a real kinship with those that have been there.
Sure, I don't want to die before my time but there is only one in this universe that knows when that will be.

Fuck him. If you look back you'll see I got told to go fuck myself first.
And any "enemies" I make I'm prepared to accept as the price for getting the message across.
The winning of hearts n minds <_<

You'd make few-to-none if you carried out a dialogue with your target audience. And your 'message' would actually get some respect, as would you. Plus, people might actually try to act on at least some of what you say.
But no, the Katman way is to finger-wave, lecture, abuse, ridicule, accuse (and refuse to answer straight questions - post #46?).
So naturally, the only response you get is the one that is along the lines of "Fuck you and the horse you rode in on".
Beyond - your post #51 captured the essence of what we do and why, perfectly. Sorry I can't bling you again. The zone you speak of is found in different places for different riders, but found it is. I wonder if it is the reason that bikers from all walks seem to share an affinity with each other? After all, it is only by experiencing can one truly understand.
