Some cheeky slime took my 3 bike trailer today, during office hours.
Was parked on my concrete parking area, in front of my house in redwood, chch.
I had one of those single bolt with padlock on the hitch lever, meaning it couldnt easily be attached to a car, probably had to be chained on.
I'd neglected to put the wheel clamp back on after using it Monday...

Bummer. Only had it since march, at least I insured it.

Which party has the strong action on crime policy, 3 strikes then off with their head? Act? Voting time Saturday.

Heck they will take anything these days! I've got one of those tow ball hitch padlocks on mine, never thought I would have to clamp the wheels. A trailer like that must be hard to disguise. Look out for it in the for sale columns.

What method do they use to get the padlock off 2slo?
There is not much room to get any tools in - and they would have to be prepared with tools etc.

Hate to say this but most padlocks of the size that can fit on the hitch lever I can open with a paperclip.

Keep an eye on Trademe and in the BuySell, I suspect it will be up for sale in the week.

what would be nice would be a removable trailer hitch ,so ya could take the whole thing off so the bastards cant hook it up to there car.. suppose you would have to take off the safety chain as well...or a silent alarm.. and keep the shottie loaded.. then shoot the bastards.. no wait knee cap them first:niceone:then shoot them:cool::banana:
that 3 strikes and you are out thing with the act party is looking better every day

One of my only photos showing the trailer well.
The spare wheel mount was my concept, added after I purchased the trailer. Its fairly unique.
If you spot it send me a pm.

Cheers.

So what is the best to way to secure a trailer, wether still attached to the car at the local track or sitting in the backyard at home, without having to use several locks, clamps etc. Is it a wheel clamp, those single bolt things that replace the locking pin to secure the coupling lever, or those big square contraptions that that go over the coupling with a padlock in them ??

A wheel clamp is probably your best option, then a chain and lock arrangement to a secure position, of course the best option is to have it out of plain site, if they can see it they cant nick it, then if it does go missing its not likely to be randomly someone walking down the street.

The small pad lock through the hitch lever is ok as a deterrent to most "honest" folk but if you can get that modified to take a better quality lock its a good idea, of course that is only for when you have it on your car, also consider changing from a 'D' bolt to a padlock for when hitched to the car.

And for gods sake by decent padlocks, anything with 3 rings like half the Olympic flag is junk. Pick Masters, Abaus, Lockwood etc locks, they cost a bit more but looked after will last you a long time and be far better.
