Any 6'5" + out there riding sports bikes? I currently have a Versys and an SV1000, love the Versys, but the SV is not comfortable for me.. yet I still have the yearning for a sports style bike..

Out of interest, I sat on a GSXR the other day and it felt like a pocket pit bike..!!

To be honest, I havent really tried many, like the looks of the R6, which on the specs has a higher seat height (on paper), but obviously each has a different fit..

So, just wondering, how tall are you and what do you ride..??

Well I am only 6' 1" and on a vtr I find it very comfortable.

But height is not the only thing, arm length, even actual leg length all play a part to finding something comfortable. Its not as if you can simple slide the seat back and adjust the wheel as you can in a cage.

Also depends on you style of riding and what you are want the bike for, cruising... running from mr plod and a gizilliom miles per hour, track days, touring, mix of all...???

In my experience the VTR is more comfortable than the SV for tall riders.

Many sports bikes are pretty good, with the 05/06 R1 being relatively spacious, the 05 gixer ok except for the leg room which is a little tight if you have muscular legs.

But screw the sprots bikes, go nakid. The current tuono has heeps of room.

Yep! I'm 6'5" and about 130kgs and have had a GSXR1000K7 since new. Had a 1000 K6 before that and a 1000K1 before that. I had a GSXR1100L and an FZR1000T before that, and moving onto the GSXR1000s, I found that I was in better condition on the 1000s than the older bikes after a long ride (1000+ km).
I don't find a Hayabusa, Blackbird, etc that much more comfortable. Well not comfortable enough to swap.

Wow 6-5. Thats a bigun.

I'd only suggest a Saturday morning doing the bike shop rounds.

You may find one of the sporty nakeds suitable, Aprilia, monster etc, you will at least have the ability to alter bars to suit if required.

Or buy a Harley and start hanging out around girls high schools.......:shifty:

Take a look at the BMW sports bikes e.g. R1200S, K1200/K1300 series.

They do a good job of accommodating larger riders.

I'm 6ft and find my K6 GSX-R750 comfy... with the footpegs in the lower position, which is 14mm lower than "as delivered"

Or better yet, don't.

There's a world of difference between 6'0" and 6'5". (and not just in cock size either).

Any particular reason?

The new BMW bikes are *gasp* competitive with the best of the Japanese models. Look at the new K1300S as an example - its engine produces similar power and torque to the current model Hayabusa.

K1300S
Peak power = 175 hp
Peak torque = 140 Nm
Dry weight = 228 kg

2008-2009 Hayabusa
Peak power = 194 hp
Peak torque = 115 Nm
Dry weight = 220 kg

6'7" and I gave up. What is it with bikes designed for midgets??

Ended up with a 109R. So it doesn't DO corners, at least my knees aren't in my ears.

Interesting as I'm 6ft4 and most sports have looked at for next bike seem very crunched up from pegs to lowest part of seat. With pegs lowered do you lose lean angle and scrape pegs all the time???

6"4 and I ride a NC30 VFR400 lol. The only issue I have is knots in my shoulders If I ride for more than a few hours at a time

Try the 06 R1. I found it to be very spacious.

Who really cares what a Beemer costs. It's still a beemer and will irreparably change your personality, as well as your dress sense.

I'm 195 cm which i think is just on 6'5... my daily ride is the little ninja 250...

it's ok for me although i dont know anything different! at the start my knees were a bit stiff after a ride but not so bad now

In researching my next bike, I have heard that the zx6r is a little more roomy than other 600s but obvioulsy havent tried personally..

I guess it's the stock answer...go and try them

Dammit chuck, I was gonna say that about you!

See you and your giant self tomorrow for the club ride!

Really I think the answer is go for cruiser if you want comfort!

If I was 6'5" I'd start at Busa or ZX14.

I'm just under 6' and feel like I only just fit on my 600.

I'm 6'5"/ 110 Kgs - and up until recently had a GSXR1000K7, which was ok for short blasts (i.e. less than 45 mins!), but pretty painful when commuting or on longer rides - raised clipons (Helibars) helped, as did stomp knee grips etc.

Would of kept it as a weekend bike if I could have afforded to (and use the Versys for the commute), but it wasn't to be. IMO I would look at the ZX14 / Blackbird / BMW K's etc - ultimatley it's how much discomfort you personally can put up with.

And - despite what anyone says - you may need to learn the hard way like me!!

I am almost 6"4 and I find the 08 CBR600RR to be quite comfortable as far as sports bikes go. Most comfortable 600cc I tested.

I'm 6'2 and as I get more confident on my ER6 it becomes smaller and smaller. I have it set up to my height though so it's quite comfortable now. Though I did the stupid move of sitting on a Versys and realised how comfortable a bike CAN be for tall blokes.

Of all the bikes I've owned I'd say the ZZR1100 was the most comfortable for long rides, I don't know why they don't make an affordable sports tour that's more on the sports side anymore? Is there just not a market for it? 600 - 800cc Blackbird/ZZR etc (Even the US ZZR's are just '02 ZX6Rs now).

When I had my ER6F in the shop at Mt Eden they threw me a loan bike, *shazam* an '08 ZX-10R.. much to my dismay even that was small to me, the human race is getting taller and people are making bikes smaller! If I want to go for a comfortable bike I'm going to have to either go second hand or leave the Japanese bikes :( Unless there are alternatives I haven't found. I don't need any more power, I just want comfort, a Yamaha sales guy said I was physically too big for an R6 (6'2 92kg).

/edit: As much as I'd hate to admit it, I agree that the CBR600 is the most comfortable 600 supersports I've been on.

I'm 6'4" and find my Hyosung pretty comfortable.

Saying that I did find the original bars (naked model) put a bit of stress on my wrists....so I changed to clipons, which I have rotated as far forward as they'll possibly go.
The extra stretch for the bars causes me to lean forward more, which makes for less pressure on my wrists....I know most people go the other way for comfort, but this seemed to work for me.

The legroom seems fine....and this is with the non-adjustable rearsets.

I'm 6'3. Just be aware that the busa/zx14, just because they are believed physically big or big engined, doesn't mean that they are suitable for big guys. Often they are cramped, lower seat heights etc.

You'll always have to fold yourself up onto the bikes, they are designed to be track machines. The bigger the bike, the worse it cuts the air, the heavier it is etc. While they are road bikes, they are designed for the track.

Nakeds will be more comfortable, and generally have a more relaxed riding position. Get one with a big enough engine, and it will do 100kph just fine.

Daily ride is a cb900... very comfortable.

I am 6'2" and my zx6rr is both painful and comfortable, depends on the riding position and how relaxed i force myself to be, at first i thought i was going to need spinal manipulation after every ride but it has got to the point where a 3 hour ride is only bad because i need to eat, drink and take a leak.

I think there is a certain amount of conditioning you are always going to go through when riding a new bike and the sports bikes have the tightest riding position so its going to be a little awkward anyways.

I'm 6'3" and I ride a Yamaha FZ1 S and find it really comfortable, also have ridden a couple of ZX14's and found them reasonably roomy and a hell of a nice bike. Have also ridden a Triumph Tiger 1050 and found it to be probably the most comfortable bike i've ridden to date bear in mind it was'nt over a huge distance.
Used to have a Yamaha YZF1000 (Thunderace) which was also roomy for a sporting machine but eventually found that it really put too much weight on my wrists unless you were well outside legal speed limits but on back roads where I could move around on the bike I found not so bad.

Well I'm only 6ft 2in but the two tallest sprotsbikes I've sat on are the Aprilia RSV and the Triumph Daytona 675...both felt much more natural for a taller rider.
