Damn, I'm down at the mount for the weekend. hmmm if I leave early enough Sunday morn, race by the house, hitch up the trailer, might make it up by 12. That KLX450 demo ride sure is compelling.

Good day out, my 13 1/2 year old son managed his 'new' 2000 Xr 200.He even got up the long sandy hill and over a couple of logs no probs....bigger wheels than the xr100 he says.... fell off when a couple times once with about 2 metres of #8 wire wrapped around the rear hub.
As ususal the KDX went well....
Some of you guys can really fly!!!! amazing to watch!!!!
Excellent day and thanks to all involved.

Thought the ride was awesome, it had enough challenges to keep ya on ya toes but still kept a good flow.
That first little hill at the beggining with the roots was fun and fun to watch the different way people tried to get up it.
Big ups to ktmboy and his crew for putting together this ride.

Think you got some issue there mate with fouling plugs. You had the same problem at woodhill that time. What color is the plug? Black and oiled up to hell?

Was a sweet ride, and good to meet some of ya. I got fogged up googles and wandered into the red hill climbs by mistake, shit they were hard ended up going diagonally on my own path. Managed the 4k & 3 25k laps but the last one wiped me out hard, bit sore today haha.

Oh my aching body.

Things of Note:

I am Unfit.

I rode the KTM like a noob

I am a man of many excuses

I was going to slow to fall off.

I could hear this voice in my head saying "Stand up you fool, elbows up"

BUT I had another voice, the louder voice saying "NO IM TO TIRED"

and finally once again,

Oh my aching body.

When do we do it again.

Mate, the plug is black and oiled up to all hell alright. I justed posted in the 'Chucking oil out the back' thread. Danger is on to it though and has pointed me in the right direction. I'm all ears though!

I'll have a good look at it this weekend. Bikes not at my home currently and I really want to get it going correctly but alas it will have to wait.

Looking through one the threads Danger suggested I look at sounds like you've been through this before :)

nice to meet a few more of you ,and a big thanks to all who organised the ride

Yeah thanks Guys for your support. It was great to meet up with most of you.

Its really hard to get things balanced and like anything different folks have different likes and dislikes. Me I hate wide open stuff and DB (strange mix).

Hey Buddy L. I heard you behind me on the way out and then stopped to get some pics in the hill climb area. I saw you head into the big hill on the other side but by the time I got over you had pulled the plug. Did hear the barp barp barp and then silence a few times though.
Big ups for getting up there.:Punk:

Here are a couple of pics from various sections. There is one of this lady (and I mean middle aged:2thumbsup) and she attempted one of the hill climbs. She bailed off her KTM and then threw it up the hill. But she wouldn't give up and finally nailed it.

IMO its always good to have something to challenge us as riders and in the end we are better off for it. For example a couple complained about the first small sandy up hill. Well everybody got up it at the end of the day and if you struggled then I bet you felt great for achieving it. Well done.

Enough rambling. Any of you guys in here?

Thats a damn shame Tom, So that means my first 10 mins of riding my new bike, in the sand, up a hill were not caught on camera. In that case I was amazing. No really I was.

- get a good run up, try to build up speed before you reach the hill.
- give it more revs and if you feel the motor starting to bog down feather the clutch to keep it on song.

I think a 125DRZ will always struggle on sandy up hills though?

Mint pics KTMBoy.

Momentum is probably the main key. Keep it going. Another thing is to sit to the rear (or move your body weight back if you stand)
This puts more weight onto the back wheel and gives more traction.

A few were bouncing up and down on their bikes but this really doesn't do anything.

2_slo I did get thet first little hill you went up as you were on my left but it was the only bit of riding captured all 5 seconds

there was definitly a bit of a trick to that first little hill once the roots got exposed good fun though I almost went into the fence the first time thought i'd go a bit wide to get some speed

it wasnt long after that 3rd pic that a tree removed my front gaurd
ktmboy is that last pic that log at the bottom of the hill in the first red?

I did see a unique front guard arrangement on your bike but missed the shot.

Thanks to all those organising the South Head ride yesterday. Took 2 sprogs & wife and "our" 150.

The kids had fun on the kids track, mum opted for first ride on the 150 - possibly a mistake without a) a test ride (we only just got the bike, 3rd-hand), b) off-road experience and c) a preview/opinion of the 4km loop. I was getting a bit concerned after she didn't show for a while, but I was keeping an eye on the ambo & fetcher/stretcher quad, which didn't move. Kids needed feeding, so we trundled the LT50 & pee-wee back to the trailer & met mum coming back down the road as we got there. She'd had an off, was evidently not a big fan of sand and requested, gently, that the idle speed be brought down from 3,000rpm. Mst remember that the 150 needs heaps of warming-up...

I took a turn on the 4km loop and only bailed at the tight right at the top of the first hill (both of which surprised me greatly). 150 handled the sand better than me and I did grin as I passed those who'd not made the bigger hills, until it occurred to me that I was only 1km in. Was roosted a few times, my only comment being that those passing probably had no idea how little directional control I had in the sand!

Arrived back to find morning tea over and everyone up at the kids track, chatting. Mum then went to chase the sprogs on a gentle track as she should have before (but it said "Kids Track"!) and we took turns... Yes, I got roosted by a 50 as well.

A brilliant day, I just need another $1k or 5 to get more bits to make it a bit easier/safer (body armour, camelbak, a bike each, etc). Oh, and a clue!

Not sure I learned any more than I already knew (let the bike do what it wants, it's better than I am; stand up, elbows up; if in doubt, more gas) but wife may have a go at a Cyclespot girlie day and can tell me the good stuff. Or is there no more to it?

More please!

Buddy L
17th November 2008, 20:04
I bailed 3 time on That Steep Hill climb, and winding the entirety two cutty grass bushes around my rear sprocket, so made my way back down the hill and with my head hanging in shame and joined back up with the track.
Would of made a good photo though.
Was chaseing you at one stage KTM boy just before the hill climbs and my front wheel washed out on a stump. that nocked the wind out of me.

Missing the tight Waimiha eh. Maddox park... don't know yet it depends on a couple of things.
Logs has a specialist to see soon for crucial ligaments.

But he did manage to hide his gear in the trailer for Saturdays recce. Rode around on a KLX140. Bloody good little bikes just quietly.

Then come Sunday he was sitting in normal clothes and some one mentioned to Mumsie that logan rode well yesterday helping out. Oh oh:spanking:

I quickly excited, stage right.
