skidMark here, sorry to mods for creating another log in, but i just wanted too say my bit. I hope this is understandable given the circumstances under which i do so.
Thanks to Kari for the call first off.
I'm lost for words, i am just shattered by this, an absolute top bloke.
him showing me the local twisties around wellington in the car, us both laughing about how much trouble we would get into from Kari if i missed my flight to auckland!, twisties mattered more...
And argueing over what breaking points to use in moto gp 08 on his PC!!!
Brett mate, was great knowing ya, even though it was only that 2 days, you were a top bloke, and a bloke who had alot of time for me, and anybody who needed a hand.
I'm so glad i met you and spent time with you before you went.
It was a good run mate a good run, you have gone doing your passion. maybe a little too soon, but a resonable run buddy.
I will be there to see you off.
i dont think the usual condolences to friends and family could even start to cover this.
Anything at all Kari, Anything.
Mark.
(also to mods...i will not post in any thread but those surrounding the accident / funeral details, if there is an issue PM me, i dont want to have any form of discussion regarding it in this thread.)

When I got the call from Kari this morning, I just couldn't believe it !!
Here I was with Brett last Sunday pulling his CBR apart with him trying to change those effing plugs which are difficult without the tools and us having such a laugh together and now this !!!
Somehow, those plugs are just unimportant now.
Brett was a wonderful person, very kind and friendly.
I feel very fortunate to have met him and myself and Bridgy will miss him immensely.
Died doing what he loved doing, he loved his CBR and more importantly Kari.
RIP Brett.

Nasty, I'm very, very sorry to hear this. God bless you and your loved ones through these times.
I couldn't believe what I was reading late last night and it took some time to sink in. Sleep didn't come easy, as I'm sure it couldn't have for you.
I had the pleasure of meeting Grub once only, but that told me a little about the man.
On my learner's just over a couple of years ago, Grub was in front of me coming up to a halt sign. He was turning right, me left.
When I pulled in at Whitby BP, there he was right behind me (he'd obviously recognised a newbie, and turned around to have a word), introducing himself by saying "nice bike". It wasn't, but he was diplomatic about it. As I recall, he was riding his old CBR600 (the pinkish one)!
Anyways, he went to on make small talk and to suggest I turn up to the Wednesday night rides down at the Duck Pond. To my lasting shame I never got around to it.
I have always remembered this brief meeting, as it told me so much about the biker community and possibly something about him also.
My condolences, and as so many have said here, please let me know (PM) if there is anything I can do to ease your burden.

When I came around that bend to see someone on the road, at the time I did not know it was Brett. Brett was in the group ahead of me and I had been chatting to him when we made a food stop about 45mins earlier. As we pulled in , he was standing with a big grin on his face, about to put his helmet on to do the next leg - about to do something he loved. That is the way I will always remember him. Someone who had the time to chat and who took an interest in what you had to say.
Kari you have my sincere condolences. Your loss will be shared by many who knew him via the wider KB community. If you need anything at all please don't hesitate to ask.

My claim to fame is Grub's blister, as he used to call me, when he wasn't calling me Flea, a nicknname he gave me when I was the little sister bugging him, many years ago.
I was fortunate to have been transported round Wellington and up over the hills etc on the back of Brett's bike, such awesome times. I enjoyed a day at Vic Club races with Brett and Kari, where I took heaps of photos and met a few of you. These memories are very precious to me, because I will always remember Brett doing what he loved and being with good friends.
Thank you all for your wonderful messages and the support that you are giving Kari. They had an amazing relationship and I treasure you Kari as part of our family.
Grub went doing what he loved, but damn I wanted him around for a lot longer.

Yesterday I was on the same Capital 1,000km Cruise as was Grub.
The day was perfect for riding, with the North Island turning on an outstanding spring day. The mountains were spectacularly clear, the countryside lush and green, the roads largely clear and clean and petrol the cheapest it has been for some time. It was a day that no biker could not enjoy being out riding in. It is days like yesterday that bikers live for.
Unfortunately Grub was not able to complete the ride and enjoy sharing the experience of it either at the Petone Workingmen's Club, or here on Kiwi Biker.
Everybody else got home safely, and for that we are blessed.
Motorcycling is about millimetres and nanoseconds. It is intrinsically dangerous, which is a large part of its appeal to those who enjoy it. While we all strive to ride within the limits of our skill, there are times when things can and do get out of shape. Sometimes we're lucky to escape with just a moistened crotch area, sometimes more damage results. On other occasions an off can be fatal.
I'm not sure that I believe in luck. I think we make our own. We've all of us had close calls, sometimes more than one. Grub was no exception to that.
We cannot imagine what you must be going through, Kari, but our thoughts and love go out to you.

Too many friends taken in too short a time.
I've only known Brett for 3 years and believe that I was only starting to scratch the surface. An intellectually curious, good natured, thoughtful, straight talking, generous and all round good bastard. Over the last few months he also managed to restore some order to the VMCC accounts, and with Kari, developed some costings for the Manfield National round and next years Winter Series.
Absolutely gutted to lose another mate and good bastard. I hope our support helps Kari.

Memories
The love is in the telling
As much as in the run
The hours spent reliving
After all the ridings done
When winter nights unseat us
And drive us all inside
The memories still remind us
Of the thrill that’s in the ride
So pass another beer my friend
And listen to my tale
Of the ride I took last summer
When it was hot as hell

Still not sure if i can actually post my feelings. Grub was such a special man and will always have a place in my heart. I have never meet a couple that have such warm, open and generous hearts and what you and Brett have Kari and I will miss him dreadfully.
You two inspired me in my riding and i loved following him as he had such great lines. I am going to miss the feeling of security riding between you, knowing that you are looking out for me.
I am going to miss our chats, and seeing him drink coffee with his foot on the drawer. He was my go to guy on crazy ex wives and had an increadible wit. He made me laugh so often and i loved shooting shit with him.
You two made my life bearable when things were tough and i can never repay you for that. So while i never wanted to return it in kind, i will, because you are a wonderful person and a true freind.

You must be very proud to have been such a big part of such a good mans life. Kia Ora everyone
It has been a sad time for this past week .. as we have farewelled my lover and your friend Brett/Grub. I am now back home .. and have been honored by being allowed by his family to bring his ashes back home to throw off a hill in time - it will be Paecock - he loved to ride that hill and I as well as others see it as totally fitting.
There are so many people to thank and if I name them then there will be some that I miss - but you know who you are ... and you all helped me in such amazing and fantastic ways that meant that my darling got the send offs that he deserved.
I have the bike home now and will take it to be assessed today. I will have to wait and see what happens from there.
For those who are wondering - i am eatting and drinking .. and thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.
Life is a gift that we have all been given. And I think that is something that Grub was sure of - he lived life to the full and ensured that he had absolutely no regrets.
