Yeah, I've done quite a few of straight road shots one point to another but they get a bit long for viewers and it's one of those "you had to be there" moments. Different angles, road side shots, clips that are kept short with reasonable music helps to keep the focus I reckon. :)
I think my vid neeeds replacing. Would like a 3ccd wide screen with good anti vibration controls :) Lost a lot of my footage today from shake, bad recording and noise :(

250 (indicated) on a GSX1400 isn't that bad (but can't be done on a K6/K7 without modifying the exhaust, oddly enough). You just sort of hunker down and point the top of your helmet into the wind so that the pressure doesn't push backwards on your neck. Standard aerodynamic tuck, like on a time-trial bicycle.
It's still a fairly... intense experience, though.
:sunny:
(I can sit upright on my 1400 until about 220, but after that the neck strain just gets unpleasant.)

Yep - I'm sure it would be very intense.
I can remember pushing my old GSX1100EZ on the Canterbury plans. Top speed was only an indicated 205 but even at that speed it felt like my helmet was about ready to lift off.

A serious question for you Paul.
You've already stated that if you die riding your bike it will all be worth it because you've experienced riding in "the zone".
But what if you don't die in the accident? What if you suffer major brain trauma and survive in a vegetative state and you have to have your wife spoon feed you baby food and wipe your arse every time you have a shit - for the rest of your life?
Would "the zone" be worth that?
Do you think your wife would think it's worth it?
Sometimes there's worse things than dying.

I think his point is that if he crashes and dies, it'll be his own fault.Yes, but not all his consequence. Real freedom comes from no one causing any of us consequences, but unfortunately the reverse must also be true, unless you have a gun then you can do as you please.
250 (indicated) on a GSX1400 isn't that badI'm a little surprised - I've seen 230 indicated on my 650. I backed off coz there were corners with shaded wet patches and it felt wrong. It'll take a little longer to get there than that 1400 I'm sure.
I haven't been on a bike for two weeks, coz I was doing exactly this (pushing hard in the corners) and I stacked it. I have a sore ankle and a sore calf muscle, but I can hobble around without crutches. Lucky? Very very very very lucky. Nasty lesson learned. Bent tank and swingarm, and two broken plastics - thats it.. How lucky? Yup, very.
Three other bikers were "having fun" out there this last week, and now their families are crying. Crying like they never knew they could.
Have fun but be careful out there, your family wants you back.
So yeah awesome video but I found it quite scary. Its almost certainly just me.

Paul wasn't actually pushing anything in that video, though. I won't argue this objectively; I just know from personal experience on the same bike and from riding with him that nothing 'hard out' was filmed there.
Perhaps one of us should put up a trackday video taken on a GSX1400 to show yous fullas what they can really do.

Good job admitting this straight up, so just this once I won't take the piss out of you; I'll just point out that you crashed because you fucked up and rode outside of your own ability to control your bike. Done the same thing myself.
You can now:
(a) accept that your riding skills are not up to the way you want to ride, and just fit your activities around that, or
(b) learn to ride your bike in a safe environment.
I prescribe (b), which means MOAR TRACKDAYS.
Yes, I know that James Deuce will be along shortly to holler 'JUST SLOW DOWN!', but the problem is, folks, that skill is no substitute for attitude, and neither is attitude a substitute for skill.
One without the other might make you think you're safe on a motorcycle... right up until the day you realise that it's not enough.
Yes, by all means, be safety-conscious and leave your ego at home, but for God's sake, people, learn to fucking ride as well. The 'I'm so safe and responsible' flavour of egotism seen in the folk who would mock the 'trackdays uber alles' camp is all very well and good, right up until they find themselves heading wide in a corner without any ability to turn in further...

The fact you cant keep up with Paul when he turns up the wick is enough to assume you've never seen him riding at pace; therefore, for the 20 seconds that you seem of him, whilst he disappears around the next bend into the sunset, isn't really adequate time , i'd suggest, for you to comment whether he's safe or not.. wouldn't you agree ( don't worry, i know the answer already! )

boomer - not confident enough to bet that I can't win a race before the end of the next series. Way hey hey!
I won't be ignoring you, though. I don't let shit get to me like that.
:msn-wink:
Edit: And no, I won't apologise for scratching the idea of betting on how fast anyone goes on the road. You're a slow learner hey? Haven't seen quite enough blood on the chipseal yet? How would you feel if we went out that day and it ended up being Paul's?

... just not on whether I can win any single race over several rounds, eh?
Real confident there man. Heh.
:2thumbsup

More like, as usual, you get excited and turn into a bit of a monkey.
Like I said, if you don't think I can ride, I'm open to a bet on me winning a race before the end of the next series.
My fairly deaf ears catch the pitter-patter of back-pedalling feet... you started the whole 'bet on it' shit, dude, bit off more than you could chew there, maybe?
You on the other hand.. believe EVERYTHING you say/type.
Only because it's always right, bro. Only because it's always right.

My mate Joe has a couple:

:)
Managed to hustle my K2 14 round Puke in 1:05. Limits to a faster times were ground clearence (obvious) and for some reason grip out of the first left after the hairpin (blue smoke, black line type squealers).
These 14's kick ass...........Boomer, start saving dude....lucky for you Suzuki are doing a Suzuki fest promotion at the moment, save you a few bucks.
jrandom, are you going for the blue, black or the new white one?
Got a photo of me hustling the mighty 14 around Puke on my profile........not as hi-tech as Beyond......haven't moved on to moving pictures yet :D

My one's bleck au! Check the profile photo.
(That's kiwifruit on it, the Official Test Pilot.)
Oh, you mean the one boomer will buy me?
It'll be bleck too, and I'll insist he keep it himself and ride nothing else for three years.

ok, last post in respect to this.
My point, has always been, that i know exactly how fast Paul can and does ride and on a very good day i could just about keep up with him on low wick.
I've ridden with you and even with you on high wick you;re still playing catch up every smoko break.
i'd have no worries betting $500 or a gsx1400 on Paul winning the winter series.. none at all. he'd walk it. Therefore, with your comparisons in this thread as to how you're as fast/competent as Paul.. i bet YOU wouldn't do either of the 2 things. .. and YOU didn't; Actions speak louder than words Dan.
I was right, you don't have it in you, you're a) unable to mentally accept your wrong and b) delusional to think you're half as good a rider as Paul is.
so.. Dan, when i see you next you can be assured i'll be asking you to repeat the monkey comment !
in the meantime.. back on IGNORE for you !

Serious question and one most of us would like to avoid.
No one likes to think they will be seriously injured rather than die outright. No one wants to think of themselves having to be spoon fed.
But, as I have pointed out before, life comes with no guarantees. I could acquire a disease or genetic malfunction that will have me in the same position.
I could get squashed at work, roll down the stairs of my three story home, fall of my motorbike down a steep bank, slip down a slope and get followed up by the lawnmover giving me more than a close crop.
I certainly hope such a thing never happens but I have had way more close calls in life from non motorcycling experiences than I have with them.
You could ride perfectly, within the law all the time and still come to grief in the same way through some moron pulling out on you or doing something dum.
I don't push myself beyond my limits but what I have found in pushing myself too them, is a development of way faster reaction times and control so that when I need to call on them in an emergency they are right there.
There's no easy answer to that one mate. Not only motorcyclists face these sort of problems.

Maybe not - but it seems there's a shit load of motorcyclists who seem intent on actively courting such disaster.

You're really invested in that idea, aren't you?
I've got no who's-faster shit that I'm interested in talking here... race results are the only meaningful currency in these discussions, Duncan. And you're welcome to bet on mine if you have the balls to do so.
:msn-wink:

I'll be happy to repeat it, dude, happy to repeat it and give you a smack in your silly chops to back it up if you absolutely insist.

Probably because motorcycling is inherently a higher risk activity than just about everything else out there.

Are you sure you're not being a bit fallacious there (http://adventure.howstuffworks.com/skydiving8.htm)?
"You would have to jump 17 times per year for your risk of dying in a skydiving accident to equal your risk of dying in a car accident if you drive 10,000 miles per year."

That doesn't mean we should set out to increase those risks - or impose risks upon others through our actions.

Only 17 times a year to equal 10,000 miles?
I ride/drive at least 25,000km per year and have been driving/riding for 38 years, covering "who" knows how many miles/kilometers in that time. Total number of accidents? 1 at 20mph when I got shunted off a narrow gravel road by a cattle truck. Falls of the bike? 2. One at 2mph when the ribbed road front tyre slipped sideways on a wet clay driveway, and one at virtually zero when the same thing happened at a set of lights as I was just moving away as a car came around at a speed I didn't think he'd stop and grabbed the front brake. I hadn't even lifted my feet up onto the pegs.
I've had a few close calls of course, but the idea of a "close call" from 5,000ft doesn't really thrill me...

Experienced skydivers may disagree but I guess it's a case of what you're used to. I've never tried it, my sister did it for her 50th and reckoned it was the biggest buzz she ever had. Me, I'm a chicken...

Statistically it is one of the safest sports.
The worst is downhill mountain bike riding.
