My mate ordered a new BMW 650GS about 3 weeks ago.
Confirmed with BMW that he needed it by end of Feb so that it would be here in time for our tour of the South Island.
BWM said - yep - that fits with the waiting times of about 12 weeks.
Mate gives large deposit.
BMW calls yesterday and tells him its going to be about June before it arrives here!!!!!!
Gutted !!!!
The dealer had told him to bring it up with BMW NZ at Big boys toys next week.
FFS sake - it would be faster to fly there and ride one home (lack of time, talent and funds not withstanding).
So if you are in the market for a Beemer - be ready for a loooooong wait!

Import one from the US then. Waiting that long is unacceptable.
And if you ask about warranty, BMW are useless anyway (with cars that is - don't know about bikes).

That is crap news.
BMW did the same to some guy I worked with in the UK about 15 years ago.
To add insult to injury, when the fecking thing turned up at the dock, they dropped the container off the wharf and it sunk to the bottom of the English Channel.
Bad karma man....

BMW doesn't have a distributor in New Zealand any more. All local sales are sourced through the Australian distributor.
That wait is unacceptable. Raise merry hell.

Yep, speaking to the BMW dude from experience, it's because they come through oz. The Aussies will be there at Big boys toys, so have a blather about it. BTW, even if you pay full price for a F800GS, don't expect to get it before April.

Get the money back.
That's unacceptable delay and refund should be covered by CGA (i take it was a NZ dealer).....

This is oen of many reasons why my next bike will not be a BMW, despite a good run out of the old bus.
Thaey ask top dollar for their bikes, but the service from BMW sucks, and there is no dealer network.
Demand a refund and buy Japanese... The Consumer Guarentees Act is your friend. Mention the bit a bout consequentail losses
The fact it is a BMW Oz problem is their problem, not yours - the Act is quite clear on what you need to do. It is available on line and pretty short, take a copy with you with the appropriate bits highlighted.
A letter to the BMW Owners Regeister and Kiwi Rider, etc might also stir the pot a bit.

I dont believe getting the money back would be too big of an issue - the problem is that he really likes that bike and wants it.
The real pain is that he is now going to have to buy luggage etc for the old bike for our trip and get rid of them (at a loss) about a month later when the new bike arrives. Gonna give BMW shit at BBT's this weekend.

you guys will be better off writing one letter to BMW international with all your names and signatures on it expressing your distain and that you all wanted to buy a new bike but will be buying KTMs etc unless service and supply improve dramatically.
