While I was coming back from my weekly ride up the Manukua heads road yesterday I saw two bikes going the other way.
One was an XV caferacer, the other an XS caferacer.
Instant U turn and I'm after these guys.
Couple of minites later we're having a major yarn on the side of the road.
Seems we haunt the same web sites.
The XV was all black an chrome with many nice after market bits.
The XS was exactly what I'm doing with my own bike but it wasn't quite finished yet.GS450/250 gas tank, clubman seat, rear sets, clip ons,ect ect.
Anyway, talking with the XS rider he made it clear this was HIS bike and the next move was to rebuild the engine for more HP and to get another twenty odd years from it.The guy on the XV had the same plans.
I do want a large on/off type trail bike but the XS is also my final choise as a road bike.I can make anything I want with this bike,Cafe, chop, trail, racer, even leave it standard,it's all been done already an there's a wealth of knowlage and information on them.
I have my tank, the G50 replica seat base arrives next week,The hack saw and grinder are just bideing their time.I just have to get up the courage to make that first cut.
So,Moto Guzzi riders aside, :msn-wink: how many other riders out there have found the bike
They will still be riding in twenty years??
How many bikes out there today are even up to it ??

Well I have my dream bike. I even took it from the UK to NZ, and then brought it back when I deserted. I guess it would have been cheaper to sell and buy each time, but it's MY bike.

Ever since the day I started to be interested in bikes I loved the RGV and for at least 5 years I have obsessed over the things, had dreams about the greatness and how cool I would be to have one and I was so stoked to finally get one.
..... but now, I have bigger fish to fry, a vtwin thousand is next in my dreams

When the new model GSXR's came out (96 SRAD Beam frame) I knew I had to have one, in blue & white. And now I do, albeit a 97 model. So yes I do own the bike I really want. Also I couldn't give a flying backwards fuck if there are too many blue & white gixxers around (Aaron, what was that you said!!), its the colour scheme of the gixxer that I prefer the most. So I'm happy.
Just kidding aaron, I know you secretly want one as well!!

Long term dream bike is in my signature (good rep for the person who can tell me what it is, and where its made :niceone: )
But the only bikes i have never dreamed about, that i owed was the shitter Kwaka 100.
But the dreams inspire you to build the bike you want. Like making my GB a true cafe racer, or making the RG a power machine.
The ZXR i swapped for my car - cos i was so desparate for a bike, but i still like her.
Was it a 650/750 or 850 XS?
Nice bikes those XS's

There are many bikes out there now that I want and ofcourse I'll always want to build myself a chopper in the future. But I will probably never get rid of my Virago, I like it too much and its a great dependable bike thats still fun and comfortable to ride.

Hell yes.
I have my dream bike, i would not trade it for a Gixxer 600 or anything. Not because my bias holds me blind and leaves me thinking i have the fastest bike... But because its everything i need it to be, it has 50something HP when i need it to and that power never feels like too much nor too little, shes light, i love the way she looks and she commutes cheaply returning 20km/L
Only gripe is the radials, i do love them but i wish i could get more then 10,000km out of them, oh wait, i do! but the last 5,000km is with far from good tread for wet weather use then the final 1,000km is riding on steel. but it still rolls me to work and back :)
I could talk about NC's forever. I want to ride them all
only bike id consider buying next (but wouldnt sell my 400) would be a RC30... Anybody?

I've had the bike I really wanted twice..... 1st was the CX Turbo.... right from when I was 17 and had my 1st CX500, and the 2nd bike would be the Moto Guzzi 1100i sport... kinda folowing the tradition of the transverse V2.
The Storm is a sorta fill in bike while I decide what will be next, I'm thinking a MG V11 Nero Corsa or the MGS01 should it ever be made for the rd.

So I don't have a dream bike at the mo...

Those germans, crazy fellas.
I like theyre style in fighters' too.
Ill leave the restrictors (250kph) in for about 1 year to get used to the bike. Then look at bypassing em with a new fuel injection unit.
as for the XS's, im more of a triple man myself (750/850), cept i cant find any kits to convert these to chain drive (esp 850's) - or a light bolt on diff replacement.
Ive got about 5 850's sittin in dads shed when i can be bothered fixing one. Will try it someday.
The bike is older then me

Only 9 years to go now and I will have had my VFR 20 years. It still runs like new now so I can't see any reason why it won't be in top condition then. Eventually I might have to replace the rear shock and the brake pads and maybe the chain one more time in that time, plus the usual oil and filters and a set of spark plugs and no doubt some more tyres, but that's about all I'd expect.

Actually saw one of my dream bikes today.
It's the American Motor Show on today and I suppose someone rode it there, but anyway it went past us on the Hutt Motorway just south of River Road.
An XR1000. [sigh] I used to dream about those when I was a kid and Evil Kenieval was doing all sorts of tricks with them. Actually I had a poster of one on my wall...
Damn I wish I had one of those. Now that's a real Harley...

No,I haven't got the bike I want, but I'm playing around with the one I have, turning it into what suits me.That's ok by me,I like altering a bike more to my liking - hell,I wouldn't like to go out and buy the perfect bike, where is the fun in that?
I thought the XS1 was perfect for me at the time,I used to reckon if I won Lotto I'd just rebuild the XS1,but then I wanted to change it around, and that would ruin one of the few left,so I sold it.Dunno what to do next,I'd kinda like to have a last fling off road, but also buy what might be a bike to last me for awhile. The set up of the XS1 still appeals to me - I'd like to get a W650 and do a street scrambler on it - then I'd have a modern bike that could do road, gravel, beach, bit of off road...kinda like the do all bikes I grew up on.A sidecar is on a want list too,I'd like to involve my kids in my riding more, hooning around in a chair would be big fun.

There was talk a while back of the Britten Motorcycle Company producing a road version of the V1000. I remember the price tag estimates were around the $50K mark and they would have to make 250ish modifications to the race V1000. I wonder if they will ever do it?
I was casually thinking the other day about what would be involved in building a look-a-like Britton. Perhaps taking a TL1000, crafting a new fairing set, moulding the exhaust...etc The rear shock would be difficult to hide and it would never look that close to the original....but it would sure turn heads!
Onto my dream bike...at the moment, it would have to be the MV Agusta F4 1000 Tamburini:
I've always loved the MV Agusta F4, but the lines on this one, and the paint job...what can I say. The price tag is a little out of reach though.

not sure what my absolute fav-must-have bike would be.. there's plenty of bikes all offering a ton of stuff..
I love the bike I have now (lets face it, who doesn't?* :yeah: ), it does everything I want from a bike at the moment, and I'm hoping to have it for a while.. But then there's the Duc 999 which I think is one sexy bike.. I just wanna take it out for a few weeks on a test ride and just :buggerd: it hard. But then that Agusta is a tad sexy too and I'd do the same with that.. On the other hand, I've seen some nice tourers that I wouldn't mind having too. I'd go everywhere in comfort.. I guess I just have to win lotto, buy me a big shed so I can park some stuff in there, then when the mood suits, I'd be ouuuut n abouuuut.. But I think me 636 would still be standing in the middle with a couple of new friends..
*I know not everyone does, and it's a totally bias thing to put, but I love it, and everyone drops a jaw at it, so I'll take my 5 mins of fame, if that's all it's going to be...

Wife has lowered he vtr1000f by about 3 cms at seat high(mainly to be safe when parking etc, and she was still lapping taupo race way in 52's with out using her brakes, which arn't a bad to time, with out really trying)

I have owned my nc30 for 7 years now and feel I don't really need anything newer, faster. Sure I laugh when I get destroyed by faster bikes (SP1,996,CBR's) off the lights but that's not what the NC series is about. Its all about da corners :yeah:
I find the NC isn't suited for long trips if you are on the tall side of things as it can get a bit cramped. Any trip around 100km's is alright though.
While my ultimate dream bike would be a factory RC45 with all the tricky bits id more realistically settle for a RC30 (if I could find one)

Hmmm, my "dream bike" is already around 20 years old - BMW R100CS.
However that might just be a tad "overkill" for riding to work (until we get that dream home out in the country).
I'd love to have a fleet of bikes (in some utopian future/alternative universe where we're not being robbed by ACC for possessing more vehicles than we can ride/drive simultaneously) of a variety of types for different uses: would like another off-roader to play around on (nothing serious - I'm not a serious MX or trail rider - just a "noisy toy" like my old TS125 to hoon around on off road), the Beemer for longer rides and something cheap-to-run and reliable to commute to and from work on (perhaps a small motard conversion around 125-250cc).
I've had some bikes over the years that I regret selling - my Zundapp and Puch (but I couldn't afford to keep them maintained and better to sell them on to an enthusiast looking for projects than let them rust to death, eh), my CB360 (settle down, you Honda fanatics, my next regretful sale is ) my Suzuki TS125 (the real one, not the "ER" ("Extra Retarded"?) model that came later).

Well I've been riding two of mine for 20years-what's another 20?

The CB400f2 was a really good deal at the time and was also all that I could afford. I was honestly after an early 1970ish CB four. However I am thankfull that I did get this bike and not gone back to the older models. I first looked at it and though ah shyte! Although once I got it on the road and started to throw it about, I was more than impressed. I would like to keep it as a second bike upon getting the bike that I really want. Which is a 2005 CBR600RR, however I'm fucked if I'm buying it brand new and loosing so much moola upon removing it from the showroom. So for now I wait, until I can aquire a second hand one in mint nick... :niceone:

GN250 my dream bike? Er no. It's nice and all but it's not really what I want.
Of the 250ccs I'd have to say a GSX250 (a guy at Uni has got a new one he bought back from Japan a couple of years ago, they're really nice).
Though what I really want is an SV650S or SV1000S. Not insanely fast, but they're what I want.

I wanted a Zed way back, when I read the first review of the Z1 900 in 1972 in an Aussy mag and they described going through the gears to 132MPH. I still have the mag, and I have a Zed (or at least its great grandson), I have the bike I really want.

VTwins do it for me.......so my ultimate bike would be Ducati's 999s.
Not as racey or pricey as the R version but a step up from the standard 999.
There's something about Ducati's and the sound of a twin that makes people stop and stare.
The SV great...looks and sounds great but doesn't have the presence that Ducati's possess.

was way too muffled and because of that sounded like my old xr, only quiter!!
Quasis old bike and spanks are what vtwins are meant to sound like
edit:alos heard a 749 with the race pipes fitted and that sounded wicked as well

I'm past the fastest is best phase, and I'm sure as Hell past wanting something about as comfortable as a torturers rack.
When I decided to buy another bike I decided I wanted something not too big, about 750cc, a comfortable seat, a decent sized tank to give a range of over 300Km, and at least a half-fairing that would keep some of the weather off. It should go, and stop, and handle, reasonably well.
I guess my ultimate bike would be the VFR.
When the Hornet 900s became available at less than two thirds the cost of a VFR though I bought the Hornet. It'll do anything I want even if it doesn't quite match my spec. I can always add a windscreen if it gets too cold...
Still, I await the V5 Honda with interest. :-)

I've had the bike I really wanted twice..... 1st was the CX Turbo.... right from when I was 17 and had my 1st CX500, and the 2nd bike would be the Moto Guzzi 1100i sport... kinda folowing the tradition of the transverse V2.
I'm thinking a MG V11 Nero Corsa or the MGS01 should it ever be made for the rd.
Ok then, as we are doing the revisit thing here and I notice that I never posted the pics of the bikes i mentioned then here we go.
Ps: I would like to add the Griso...... it actually does grow on ya.

I saw a nice Porche today and was thinking if money was no object what would I buy? like naturally I would not own a suzuki RF900 and a Nissan Safari but I would also not want a Porche and an Apprilla I would not know what to Buy. Year ago it was more simple. but there is so much choice.
I think I would get a Mini cooper S but not a new one a restored one and a new Rocket three and a little 250 sports bike.
But its all dream world for now. as for the RF900 I didnt just buy it I planned it for a year. It was the most powerful bike for the dollar/year and thats a fact and while I bit boring and ugly it has 110hp of honest grunt and is in mint condition and for now I love it and kiss it!

Since im still on my restricted & im only alowed a 250 i own the bike ive always wanted - never thought i would have a pair of them though. But if i wasnt restricted to a 250 i would love to have a zx636 or a MV augusta, but the MV is way out of my price range :weep: My old man got the bike he always wanted, a 2000 zx9r, that was until they made the zx10 & then he traded the zx9 for one of them. Sofar we have both managed to get the bikes we want, so i guess all i can say is bring on the zx6r :2thumbsup

Mate... it is a shit load of money, but as its a very limited edition and a very well sort bike the price isent that far off........ I remember seeing the MV F4 in 99 at a dealer in Oz (was druling over it with Barry Sheen) when it was 1st releiced in full c/f and the price was $75k. Remember the MGS01 is hand made the hole bloody lot of it.....ohhhhhhhhhh its sweet aye

If money were no object, I would get my dream bike - BMW R100CS - and a van for the family - 1970's VW Kombi - and a car - 1970's VW Beetle with 1800cc air-cooled boxer 4. I would then put them all in for total overhauls - fully reconditioned engines; brakes, steering, running gear, bodywork etc all gone over with a fine-toothed comb - bring them up to the standard they were when they first rolled off their respective assembly lines. Effectively I would have three brand-new vehicles but simpler and more robust than most modern vehicles. The cost to maintain them at that level would be cheaper than the maintenance on modern vehicles ("power steering unit? what farking power steering unit?")
Another car I would like would be a Triumph Herald in primo condition - had a Herald once before, great old car. More than capable of the legal speed limit, reliable, one of the best turning circles I've seen in a cage and simple to maintain - I'd have one over pretty much any modern car.

The 640 is fully doing it for me at the moment, I feel very lucky to be able to afford what is the best bike available, at any price, for what I use it for.
Of course it'd be nice to have a 998R, Hayabusa & KTM 200EXC parked in the shed next to it to fully cover the spectrum, but I'd probably still ride the 640 most often.
Cheers

My current bike is only a little GN250, so its some way from being my dream bike.
Until I've ridden em all I wont know which is my favorite, but these are a few of the beauties I'm keen to take into consideration for my "dream bike"
Norton 952 Commando cos its a norton even if it does look a bit wanky.
Triumph, pretty much any of them except the thruxton & the sports bikes.
Motto Guzzi California EV
H-D Wide Glide, or any of the Dyna Glide's at a pinch
In the "classics" department, pretty much any old classic triumph, norton, BSA, or indian to take out for sunday rides, but not to ride on every day.

A man after my own hart.... I've had 3 of them and the 6cyl Vitesse all convertabls, just unbolt the roof, my 1360 had twin carbs and cracked the ton (uses intire width of rd tho) and the 1200 cranked up to 80mph (also used the hole width of rd) as for the Vitesse a Herald with a six in it..... fuk me never tried top end in that thing.

Yup thats the one, I wouldnt pay that much for one - its just the best condition one that I could find, and definatly dont like the colors, The first time I saw one was in the local Honda shop, I fell in love with it - I wanted it so bad - but I was stuck with a 250.
Oh well, IF I can afford a ZX6R/ZX9R then thats what I'd get instead but the VFR has a good bang for buck value.
