So our xy child accidently sent a golf ball over the back fence last night and into the drivers window of the neighbours audi. :crybaby: I dont know the guys name (we call him 'naked guy' cause he hangs out his laundry in his y fronts..) but I went over and saw naked guy and told him what happened. Totally shattered the window. He was really good about it and said he thought he has a window breakage extension on his insurance but didn't know if it covered all the windows or just the front and back ones.
Is that a standard?
Our insurance covers all windows... yep all 10 in the van
He is going to ring insurance guys today so will see. But just wondering if his insurance says no.. Can our insurance cover it at all?
(feeling broke atm)
Cheers all.

Yeah, this has covered me in a similar situation. I was car-sitting a friends Audi (:shit: coincidence...) driving home from work during school holidays when the windscreen shattered. I jumped out of the car and saw a cricket ball rolling off into the gutter and a kid coming out from a driveway looking for it. Anyway, after a little bit of keeping  and no :2guns:, mother come out and sorted the situation, insurance etc... It just took a few days longer then I would have liked having to be approved etc...

just rang our insurance company and its covered by our contents insurance. Minus the excess of course.
Now it all depends on if naked guy tells his insurance company who broke the window.

I think you Xy child needs to work on his swing, perhaps golf lessons are in order......unless of course he was aiming for the window!

 Actually he is quite relieved.. naked guy is one of 3 neighbours behind us.. the gay guys house is on the right and Big dog guys house is on the left and big dog guy yelled at one of the xx children the other day for playing golf too close to his ford ute.. (yes make assumptions they are right) So yeah he was releived he hit naked guys car not big dog guys ute. Dog guy scares the kids...:shifty: I dont mind.. its good they learn that other people can growl them too when they are being silly.

Tell the XY that nobodies insurance will cover it and that the owner had to pay out of pocket to fix it. Tell the XY that the owner would like to be re-imbursed at some point for the cost. Make up a number a touch higher than the real cost.

Make XY do chores/odd jobs around the neighborhood (if they are old enough, talk to someone at the local golf course, they always have odd jobs for young'ins to do) to earn back the money. Collect all the money, start an interest earning savings or investment account and stash all the money there. After the "cost" has been socked away into the savings account, wait for the next b-day/x-mas and use half the money to buy some completely AWESOME surprise present and tell him that he's earned it. Tell him about the other half of the money and that he can have it 2-3 years from that b-day or x-mas. I'd recommend the investment route (especially if you have someone in the family wise in such matters). Once he's told about the investment account show him the ropes of investing and let him keep an eye on his nest egg so that he can watch that amount grow.

He will learn a lesson about actions having consequences that need to be dealt with instead of letting other people take care of it. He will learn a lesson about the value of money (that working sucks, but there can be awesome rewards for it). He will also learn the value of saving money (when the amount he saves/invests grows and he can buy himself something even more awesome down the line).

I pressed "enter" with your bling a little prematurely! It was supposed to read “I like your style”.
Inventive/positive idea by the way!:niceone:

Some excellent ideas there. Although being an Audi I dont think I need to make up an number a touch higher than the real cost... We have told him we have to pay for it.

He did not seem too upset that he lost his pocket money..But he did ask how many years it would be before he got pocket money again.. But being the kid he is, he is more concerned at this point that he has upset the neighbour and is in the process of getting a 'gift/service' to say sorry to him as well.

As for the neighbour, I have not seen or heard from him as yet so still waiting to find out if we will have to use our insurance or not.

Well naked guy has had the car window fixed.
I am going to go see him tonight, but at this stage it looks like his insurance has covered it under the window breakage ext on his policy.
