Yoshimura ECU - What does it do?

My K5 GSXR 600 has one, but i have no idea what it does, can it be programmed to change the ignition timing? How should it interface with a Power Commander?

I'm new to these fuel injected things, any insight would be greatly appreciated.

It's essentially the same as a Power Commander. Not all Power Commanders come with the ability to adjust the timing as standard, but AFAIK all the Yoshi ECUs do.

It does not interface with a Power Commander. It is an autonomous unit, however it is still a piggy back unit and requires the bike to utilise the standard ECU too.

You will need to download the EMS software, if you contact Cajun, I think he has a link to it... there was a thread on this exact subject just recently :)

Thanks for that, I did google it, but with limited success. The bit that has confused me now is that my bike has both a yoshimura ECU and a power commander.

Funny thing is, is that when I change the maps on the power commander, it seems to have Nil effect and the bike is over fueling something chronic. I'm wondering if the Yoshi ECU is over riding the power commander.

The Yoshimura ECU is a replacement for the stock ECU unit but is fully adjustable. Essentially an ECU and Power Commander in the one unit.

It seems to be not uncommon to put on a power commander, which piggybacks on the injectors, to supposedly make it easier to program. ie. treating the Yosh ECU as if it was the stock unit. However it is totally unecessary. I took my Power comander off and program the EMPRO directly.

Also you should check whether you have a stock loom or race loom. The race loom allows other functions as listed in the link.

I understand Cajun has the cable/software for the 04/05 ECU. I have an 06/07 model which may not work.

It depends on what model you have... they make both, what they make for a GSXR600K5, I can't say. What you have, I don't know either :(

Is the PCIII actually connected? Maybe it's just mounted there and not connected?

Now I know that the power commander had a custom map on it when I got the bike that wasn't for the stock motor. So, im wondering if even though i've changed the Power Commander map to something that should be ball park, because it bases it percentage of change off what the ecu is doing the change is wrong.

Might just see if I can get a stock ECU, how much extra advantage will the Yoshi ECU give a standard motor afterall?

Hi Glen,
For the k4-k5 600 yoshi made both a upgrade yoshi ecu (higher rev limit) (which we ran in 04-05) and then a yoshi Empro which looks the same but is reprogramable. (we ran this in 05-06 with a power comander as we carried over the fuel mapping from the previous year. Give me a call some time as I still have maps for both the power comander and the empro we used in 05-06 in Craigs championship winning bike. I have got lots of dyno curves to show what diff mods will do to.

You bike has a yoshimura high rev ecu.

What it does is change the fuel timing(no need for a TRE), 500 extra rpm, injection curve also, It does make a difference to the bike, leave it in.

This unit is a closed box, and can not be reprogramed (unlike the em-pro)
